HS Playoffs Picks Empty HS Playoffs Picks

It's March Madness of HS Soccer and Round 1 is in the history books. There were some notable early exits including McKinney Boyd, FM Marcus, Plano East and Plano West.

The second round starts on Thursday. Here are some notables matchups to watch for:

Region 1:

The top part of the bracket could be an interesting if Arlington Lamar and Sam Houston advance beyond the next round. The game to watch this week will be Duncanville vs Lewisville. The Nuno led D'ville team has a powerful offense and Lewisville has a solid defense. I'll pick D'ville and the lone Region 6 survivor, Allen to advance to Regional Quarters.

In the bottom half of the region, I'll pick Arlington Bowie to advance to the Regional Quarters as District 4 looks good this year. The bottom of the bracket is the story of Region 1 where Southlake Carroll reached up and slapped Boyd all the way back to McKinney! I pick them as the Cinderella team of the next round as they make it all the way to the Quarters.

So here are my Region 1 picks for the Quarterfinals:

Sam Houston
Lamar
Allen
Duncanville
Paschal
Bowie
SL Carroll
Hebron

Region 2:

Coppell - Woodlands. C
Rockwall - Sachse. RW
Naaman Forest -Mesquite. NF
Jesuit - Woodland CP. CP

No idea on the quality of the Woodlands schools, so I'm splitting the difference.

The Woodlands HS usually does very well in district, but traditionally doesn't go far in the playoffs. Who knows, this could be their year. That is my old stomping grounds from the 70s and I was the first class to attend the Woodlands and name them Highlanders. So, I have some attachment to whoever wins.
But, will say the winner of the Coppell vs Woodlands match takes Region II.

So, you think Mesquite is going to have another magical postseason like last year? Maybe so...that would be a big upset over NF.

I believe Jesuit wins easily over College Park and advances to the Region II Finals vs Coppell or The Woodlands.

Actually chose Naaman Forest to win in their game against Mesquite. Knowing nothing about College Park, I can see Jesuit advancing as they have some talented individual players.

Coppell should be the class of the region, but we will see if it plays out that way.

The problem with Jesuit is they won't play us. They bunker down and kick it long, which is ok. But we prefer to play teams that play side to side as well as back to front.

We're ranked second in district and ninth in state. Let's see where it goes. Doesn't matter to me. I already got what I came for.

Some really big upsets in the second round of the playoffs last night. Most notably, the #1 team in the state, Strake Jesuit was dismissed by a third seed.

Also, the Woodlands was sent home by Coppell in a 6-3 slaughter. Coppell was up 5-0 late in the second half, then cleared the bench.

#5 Duncanville lost to Lewisville 1-0 in a battle of defense.

Regional Quarters are Tuesday. Shout out to Southlake who continue their run at State!

Yep, Sachse won, but we beat ourselves. The only two goals you guys scored were due to sloppy back passes on our defense, and they are awful! Our defense was sketchy all year and finally did us in. They allowed 6 goals in 3 games.

Best of luck with the rest of the tournament!

The Region 1 tournament has been moved from Midland to Southlake since all 4 remaining teams are from the metroplex (Hebron, Lewisville, Sam Houston, Bowie). It's a showdown between districts 4 & 5 in this region.

Welcome to our Region. Thank you for sharing your view and opinion. Yes, we scored and it was due to our offense working hard, finishing plays all the way thru. Our teams efforts have been very well earned, & wasn't given to us in any easy way! We wanted it and we got it. Our defense did an amazing job. Thanks for the wishes, this has been a great accomplishment.

While Coppell's defense did them in, the best soccer sequence of the night was the combination play by Sachse on the right side and the lovely, crossing ball that the winger sent in. Too bad the forward blew it. Sachse linked up better than Coppell did and they had several other chances, but only scored on Coppell's mistakes. Not a big fan of Coppell's defensive scheme, but they've obviously had a lot of success throughout the years.

Sachse earned the win last night and they looked good doing it. They did get tired, but held up long enough. Coppell has loads of talent on their team, best of luck in the future to their seniors.

Yep, I agree that was a good play and the forward missed a great opportunity.

Oh well, we had our day in the sunshine and it was the greatest moment of my soccer experience! Wouldn't trade the State Championship and all it did for bb for the world.

Take care EB! Great bantering with you through the years, even though I never figured out who you were.

I’m Nobody! Who are you?
Are you – Nobody – too?
Then there’s a pair of us!
Don’t tell! they’d advertise – you know!

How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog –
To tell one’s name – the livelong June –
To an admiring Bog!

Emily Dickinson.
