Question about DA Rosters Empty Question about DA Rosters

Post by FCD07 Mom 7/3/2017, 11:27 am

It looks like these DA Rosters at U-12 are carrying 20+ Kids. They are still playing 9v9. Are the Big 3 putting together 2 teams at each AGE group for DA?

20+ kids on 9v9 seems very very high. What I am missing here?

Question about DA Rosters Empty Re: Question about DA Rosters

Per the DA rules the u12 roster is a minumum of 24, max of 26 full time players.  Each game day the roster is split into two equal squads to form two 9v9 teams that play the same opposing club. Players may not play in more then one game on game day against the same opponent. So if your kid plays in one game, even for a minute, then he can't play in the next game. Typically the games are one after the other, but some clubs like to play them simultaneously.

Per the spirit of the DA rules, the squads should be effectively equal, but in practice the clubs tend to sort them out into an A (top) and B (development) squad for games and match them up  A vs A and B vs B by some unwritten agreement.

The players are also supposed to get a minimum recommended 50% playing time every game.  The games have unlmited substitutions.  The DA tracks who starts and who is rostered on each squad, but beyond that they don't track the time the player is on the field.

After U12 the rosters go to 20 to form 11v11 teams with 18 being rostered on game day and 2 not dressing out for the game.  DA requires 25% starts at that point for each player, but no playing time requirements or then a monthly 50% recommended for U13 per the player development plan.  But again no tracking of playing time is provided.

I can't recall, but I think for the U16/U17 and U18/U10 age groups the roster maybe larger.  It used to consist of a pool of players that could be shared between the two ages with a minimum number being eligble to play in each group (i.e. 18 16/U17 players and 18 U18/U19 players or something like that).

Roster maximum:
◦ U-12 Roster: Twenty-six (26) full-time players
◦ U-13 Roster: Twenty (20) full-time players
◦ U-14 Roster: Twenty (20) full-time players
◦ Combined U-15/16 and U-17/18 Rosters: Clubs may have a maximum of forty-six (46) full-time players combined at the U-15/16 and U-17/18 age groups. Recommended roster size is twenty-three (23) players per age group, but clubs have roster flexibility at the two oldest age groups only, e.g. twenty-four (24) U-15/16 players and twenty-two (22) U-17/18 players would be permissible within the maximum total of forty-six (46)
◦ All players register directly with the U.S. Soccer Federation

Roster minimum:
◦ U-12 Roster: Twenty-four (24) full-time players
◦ U-13 Roster: Sixteen (16) full-time players
◦ U-14 Roster: Sixteen (16) full-time player
◦ Combined U-15/16 and U-17/18 Rosters: Thirty-two (32) full-time players
◦ All players register directly with the U.S. Soccer Federation

15/16's and 17/18's are now U17 and U19.
