BOYS U-14 STATE CUP 2018 Empty BOYS U-14 STATE CUP 2018

Post by Gameday 04 5/5/2018, 11:01 pm

It's that time of year again and this years tounament is a mix of familiar faces and some new challengers. This has been an eventful Classic season and Dallas Cup in which some teams such FC Dallas Premiere maintained their high caliber of play, while other relative new comers broke through barriers, talking about FC Premiere Yellow formerly Falls Town FC.

This year features 18 entrants, which is an odd number for a tournament. Brackets A, B and C have 4 teams vying for 6 spots in the knockout stage. Each team has a blind 50/50 shot of advancing.

Brackets D & E are the crossover groups. Could there have been another way to position or seed the teams? Only 2 of the 6 teams will be advancing to the knockout stage, which if you're doing the quick math means each team has a 33% blind shot of advancing. One can question how FC Premiere, the club, got 2 teams in the D,E Brackets? Or, because of the knockout format, you can look at it as each team has a blind 33% chance of sliding into a Semi-Final? Hmm. It is what it is.

Here are some quick observations;
FC Dallas has 6 teams representing,
Dallas Texans has 3 teams representing,
Liverpool has 1 team representing,
Solar has no teams represented,
There are a total of 6 "independent" clubs represented; FC Premiere, Barcelona SC, Chelsea East, Fever United, Ayses Gold and Dallas Kicks.
There is a team that played in Plano Premiere League- Barcelona SC,
From Classic Div. 1 all 10 teams are participating,
From Classic Div. 2 there are 5 teams participating,
From Classic Div. 3 there are 2 teams participating,
There are NO teams, other than "Falls Town", that are from outside of DFW.

GAMES/TEAMS TO KEEP AN EYE ON:
No team has a bigger Sunday on slate than the upstart FC Premiere "Falls Town". The out of towners have Liverpool in the morning and get to stick around in the afternoon to face the Dallas Kicks. Will they continue their big breakout season or will all of the excitement catch up to them in less than 24 hours?

Tuesday features promoted FCD Kang vs. relegated Fever United.

On FRIDAY get your popcorn ready for D1 newcomer Chelsea East vs. FC Dallas Premiere. Liverpool will be matched up against Dallas Kicks in what may be a must win for one team and a manageable game for the other?

Who are your 8 teams that will be advancing?
Will familiar teams feature some unfamilair faces?
Is there a dark horse who will shock and make a deep run?

Now that the weather is clear, schedules have been updated - let's enjoy some great futbol! GOOD LUCK TO ALL PLAYERS AND PLAY SAFE.

BOYS U-14 STATE CUP 2018 Empty DAY 1 IS IN THE BOOKS

Post by Gameday 04 5/6/2018, 9:44 pm

DAY 1 IS IN THE BOOKS and "Falls Town" answered the bell with 2 big wins. Should we be surprised that they took out the #2 Div. 1 finisher? What are they putting in the water up there? They have virtually punched their ticket into the knockout stage.

FCD ETX, also an out of towner drew vs. their Div. 2 rival FC Premiere/Opoku and lost to FCD/Pino who is now in the drivers seat of Bracket E with 2 wins.

Shoutout to @soccer4fun for the kind words.

QUESTION for @Soccer27- what the heck happened out there? Details, details??

GET SOME REST BOYS- see you Tuesday!

Correction; FCD ETX is from the Tyler area if memory serves correct.

BOYS U-14 STATE CUP 2018 Empty Re: BOYS U-14 STATE CUP 2018

There is a mistake in the Bracket D/E scores. FC Premier-Forzi defeated its fellow FC Premier-Green side, 2-0. So FC Premier-Forzi is headed to its game Friday night against FC Dallas-Pino with 13 points not 8.

On a separate note, it does seem insane that the D/E brackets aren't really brackets as every game is a crossover game. Wild Card spots and game points are all the same.

Is it the group winners in D/E that advance or is it the two teams with the highest points? And why would the tournament match up D/E in the quarterfinals as those two will have likely played each other already? Makes zero sense. Its like D/E are on their own little island.

Also, FC Premier has THREE teams in the tournament as the FallsTown team is part of the club.

@GoalkeeperDad27 gives us a correction on the FC Premiere derby, setting up a big clash vs. FCD/Pino. Who knows what type of tricks Pino is willing to pull out of his hat?Forzi well in control of Bracket D. Both teams seem likely to win D/E but lets play the games.

His observation that D/E seem like they are on their own little island is a fair assessment. Why did the comittee put the winner of D/E vs. each other in the Quarters? Why were they not seeded into the rest of the tournament. As previously mentioned, teams in D/E were granted a 33% chance of getting into a Semi-Final in this format? In our opinion the comitte got it wrong.

No disputing that "Falls Town" is an FC Premiere team. The reason I did not list them along with FCD, Texans, Liverpool, Solar is that is an observation of the big clubs vs. independents.

If anyone has game insights they would like to share, we are open.

They reworked the standings grid when the tournament started - now the table reflects all 6 teams together and the quarter-final schedule reads that the #1 and #2 finisher from the "DE" bracket meet - which looks like it could be a replay of Friday night's FCD/Pino and FC Premier Forzi matchup.

What fun is that? It does look poorly planned.

@Keeprmum68 is getting to the point- what fun is it?

Yes NORTH TEXAS COMPETITION COMITTEE- what fun is it having a mini tournament inside of the STATE CUP?
That is exactly what's going to happen, FCD Pino and FC Premiere Forzi will be playing each other on Friday night, then again on Saturday morning. Are they gonna grab a bite after Friday's game or get together for pancakes on Saturday before the game?

Somebody from the Tournament please feel free to respond?

BOYS U-14 STATE CUP 2018 Empty Re: BOYS U-14 STATE CUP 2018

Post by GoalkeeperDad27 5/8/2018, 4:58 pm

The bracket remains the same, D and E are not combined as previously mentioned. So is it the winner of each bracket or the top two in points between the six teams?

The winner of tonight's Dallas Texans-Partain vs FC Dallas-Hedges could sneak past the loser of FC Premier-Forzi and FC Dallas-Pino if it is top two of six.

I must say for a tournament that sorta means something in the big picture of things that whoever came up with the way D/E were set up should really rethink how they do things. Bad enough you don't play the teams in your bracket, but than you get paired with the winner among the teams you did play, to play them again.

Group D
1
2
3

Group E
1
2
3

In the crossover game D1 v E3, D2 v E2, D3 v E1
Because these are supposed to be seeded right? Everybody controls their own destiny within their group, for the most part.

Quarters should be set up by points earned.
Q1 - Top pts group winner v lowest points Wild Card
Q2 - 4th pts group winner v 5th pts group winner

Q3 - 2nd pts group winner v second lowest WC
Q4 - 3rd pts group winner v highest WC

This isn't world cup where fans have to plan their plane tickets to get to certain cities.

BOYS U-14 STATE CUP 2018 Empty SHUT UP AND PLAY!

Post by Gameday 04 5/8/2018, 5:39 pm

@GoalkeeperDad27 is onto something. The Quarter- Final D is written;
BRACKET DE #1
BRACKET DE #2
I take that to mean #1 and #2 IN POINTS (of the 6 teams) will advance. NOT the winners of Bracket D and Bracket E per se.  So game on!

Others have private messaged to give their version of what happened at the fight,  I mean game. Of course talking about FCD Premiere vs. Dallas Texans South. If you did not hear- there was a fight on the field with punches and kicks thrown.

GameDay 04 says to the players and coaches - THIS IS INEXCUSABLE. It doesn't matter who was winning or losing. It doesn't matter who did what or said what - there's no excuse for this.  There were parents who were reportedly ready to run into the pitch, again rediculous!

This reflects poorly on the players,  the clubs and especially the coaching staffs.  I suggest the following; get yourself together, shutup and just play the games.  If there is a repeat of this type of behavior, then everyone will know just who are the instigators.

PLAY ON!

TUESDAY IS IN THE BOOKS and this is how things are shaping up.

BRACKET DE - now that we've established that the 2 top teams in points will be advancing sets up an interest dynamic between 3 teams. FCP Forzi faces off with FCD PINO on Friday night. The loser may get bypassed by FCD East Gold if they can come up with a win vs. FCD ETX.

BRACKET A - FCD Premiere controls its own destiny but have a hungry Chelsea East who needs a big result in order to advance. Their efforts may be in vain as Dallas Texans get a shot at Barcelona in their final game.

BRACKET B - Texans Faber face off with FCD Kang who are tied in points. The winner will win the group, the loser can be passed up by Fever United if they come up with a win. Either way this will come down to points.

BRACKET C - FCP "Falls Town" is in solid control of the group. A rested Dallas Kicks needs the points in order to advance faces off vs Liverpool. The relegated Div 1 Ayses could make things interesting if they can come up with a win vs. the Div. 3 promoted "Falls Town"? Is this Div. 3 team better than some of the Div. 1 teams? Put it this way- how many of the Div. 1 teams could beat this team?
