Three 30 min periods "THIRDS"
I have heard that DA will play 3 separate 30 minute periods this season, instead of 2 40-45 min halves. Thoughts? Input?

On a windy day or when the sun is low, I hope my team wins the coin toss.

GREAT POINT! maybe they will blow whistle and stop play as close to 45 min as possible. Then we can see a youngster score a layup, mean a goal going the wrong direction lol

now this has something to with substitutions so it may prove to be good for development

Unless they changed the rules this year on subs, there are only 3 subs with no re-entry. The only value I see is that it makes it easier for a coach to reorganize the team, work on tactics during the game. It also makes it easier for a player to not have to learn to pace themselves for a full match (part of the rationale of why they limited subs in the first place).

I think the English academies (u16 and below) will play thirds or quarters. I can see advantages and disadvantages.
Considering how things work here though I'm highly skeptical. Just gives coaches more room to joystick players.

It's actually 5 subs with no re-entryTx Hotspur wrote:soccerdadrandy wrote:now this has something to with substitutions so it may prove to be good for development

LOL! Can't disagree with that.
However, it is worth noting that the bigger club academies' have foreign players on the roster as well. Although that usually doesn't happen until they are older.
Seems like England produced (I use the term 'produce' loosely) much better players when there was less structure in the youth game. Kids played on their own and normally didn't join the pro clubs until they were at least 16. And even the last generation (Beckham, Lampard, Gerrard, etc.) the academies were called 'Centers of Excellence' and only trained twice a week. Kind of like an ODP program.
The rest of the time the kids played with their local clubs and of course, on their own.

Re: Three 30 min periods "THIRDS"
WOW WAS I WRONG LOL.. turns out my "thirds" suggestion was based on 3 substitution stoppages allowed. at U14 DA level, 7 subs are allowed with no re-entry. all 7 subs must take place during each of "three" stoppages.
