04 Boys

Figured I would start an 04 Boys thread since I dont see a forum for one. Almost half way through with the Spring season. So far from what I have seen there are several good teams Texans Rosales, Dynamo (Preston's team), Leite United (Marcio), TFC Ozcomert, Solar Kennington, Solar Farley.

Anyone else have an opinion?

There are 04 Boys teams which play in the Primetime league. The league keeps scores; that may help to identify "good" teams.

Even though 04 SDL leagues dont "keep" score - it is very clear every parent, coach, and player knows the score at any point in the game and are very clear of their record as well. So not sure just because primetime officially keeps scores doesnt necessarily mean those teams are better or "good"

if u take a look at some teams in Primetime u will actually
See they are good and some teams are better. U have 04s that will compete with 03s. People like to compare Primetime with SDL and other leagues. Some people have good teams that will beat SDL teams or any other league.

Who are some of the top 04 Boys Primetime teams?

There are some standout teams in Primetime and SDL. Regardless if score is kept or not, you can see who the 'good' teams are at this point. These kids are constantly learning and 6 months down the road from now who knows what we will see out of them.

DT rosales, Solar Kennington are my pick for SDL. DT Tate and Solar Oglesby in Primetime

Thanks t5house....Solar Kennington lost most of his good players before this season (so they have definitely dropped a few levels since the fall). Preston (Dynamo) stole most of them and a couple went to Marcio's team (Leite United). Agree with you on DT Rosales. They play against Preston Pomykal's 04 Dynamo team this weekend. That should be a great match.

i agree with the Primetime teams u listed. I still think DT- Tate has the edge. Would be nice to see all 4 of the teams listed playing against each other. My idea is if u want to be the best u have to play against the best and beat the best.

Wish their was an invite only tournament where one or a commitee could select top 10 or 12 teams in the metroplex and have them play against each other....would be great to do maybe 2 times a year (early fall/late spring).

You missed the point or I was not clear (probably both). The fact that PT keeps scores makes it easier for people like you trying to identify who the "good" (whatever your definition is at 6 and 7 yo) teams are. In SDL, other than the parents involved, outsiders can only speculate about scores in any given week.

As the boys get older, some of this madness will go away (I am talking about the parents), in 7 or 8 years, by the time these kids are starting high school, the vast majority of the "top" players you see out there today, may not even be playing soccer anymore, or will not be a part of the top teams, a lot of new unknown players today will have developed and surpased them, its the way it is, boys will grow and change, so all you crazy parents out there today wanting to make your kids into superstars, let them have fun, or you will burn them out, its about development.

A lot will change in the coming years. I think next Fall will be very interesting as well. I thought Solar Kennington had the best team at the Thanksgiving tournament. No clue who or how many players he lost. Rosales must have a good team as they won that tournament.

Are you still sure DT South has the edge?
That was a fun game to watch today.

I think all these teams mentioned are good teams but consistency at this age is so hard. One game they look great, the next week,not so much. Hopefully all will play in the Primetime Cup tourny. Should be exciting to watch.

Very true. Plus, a lot of kids at this age are playing different sports, so missing games becomes an issue.

Completely agree. Some teams do end of missing players. I know our BB team had a mix of players even some 05 players playing Sunday. Overall great SDL season so far watching all the different teams.

Here are some updates from SDL this past week

Texans beat Preston P's Dynamo team 5 to 2. Could have been a lot worse, but Texans started to sub.

Solar Farley beat Solar Kennington 5 to 4.

Anyone know the score between Leite United (Marcio) and TFC (Ozcomert) - both sides are strong.

Saw that DT South and Solar Red tied 1 to 1

May tournaments could bring a lot of these teams together. A lot of options between primetime tournaments and the greater lewisville ones.

I certainly can. Yes, they did beat us, and he does have a strong squad. Look for different results at next meeting as we develop our very new team!! cheers

Bunited - Preston's Dynamo team beat you earlier in the year correct? They are in a similar place new team, new faces coming together and trying to gel.

How would you rate the current landscape within SDL? Your team planning on playing in any tournaments in May?

Well, I'll tell ya, PP's team is not THAT new, as it is, generally speaking, primarily made up of 80% of last season's Dynamo 04 (Kennington) team, with the exception of 2 players who are now playing for Leite. Yes, they did beat us, as they should have at that point. All these boys are great little players and phenomenal kids. These two teams will meet again 3/27 and it should be a great game.

As far as tournaments, this is ultimately up to our coach, but I will say that I doubt many tourneys are in our future, for the primary reason that it matters little right now, at this age, where a U7/U8 team is "ranked." I take as much pleasure as the next guy in a win (and sometimes more, admittedly), as well as being on a team that wins. Having said that, I am far more interested in my BB's development and enjoyment of the game at this time, having been down this road four times already, and I just don't personally believe tournaments serve either of those purposes at this age. When ML decides we are ready to begin tournaments, that is what we will do. Just don't expect it any time soon.

Just my 2 cents, and many will disagree.

Agree it matters little where they are ranked at this point. We have all seen a kid at 7 be quite the player and then at the age of 12 based on burn out or body changes they no longer are close to the top.

I do like tournaments for one reason. It gets the team/players a number of games in a short period of time. Plus the mental development. Exposing a 7 year old to that many games in a short time period plus exposing them to the mental side of tournaments is a good thing. In addition if it allows them to play against a higher caliber of players then can be very good for their development.

But to enter a tournament just for results purposes at this age is the wrong mindset. Emphasis should be on fun aspect of a tournament.

How is marcio so far? Everything u expected? Who were you with prior to marcio?
