FC Dallas Sign Jesus Ferreira
FC Dallas have signed an even younger homegrown player. They clearly do not want another Weston McKinney situation on their hands. Jesus Ferreira does not turn 16 until next month. I am not sure what the rules are for under 18 players such as Ferreira and Pomykal who have signed recently. Does FC Dallas have to pay them the MLS minimum salary??????
FRISCO, Texas (Thursday, Nov. 17) – FC Dallas has signed its league-leading 16th Homegrown Player, forward Jesus Ferreira, from the FC Dallas Academy for the 2017 season.
The son of former MLS MVP David Ferreira, Jesus, 15, becomes the youngest player ever to sign with FC Dallas. Ferreira first joined the FC Dallas Academy at the age of eight, when his father signed with FC Dallas in February of 2009.
Ferreira was part of the Under-16 FC Dallas Academy team that won the 2015-16 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Championship after going 23-2-0 during the regular season. Since joining the FC Dallas Academy in 2013, Ferreira has found the back of the net 48 times in 50 starts.
In last month’s Generation adidas Cup in Kansas City, Ferreira tallied 10 goals in three matches as the FC Dallas U-18 team went 3-0-0 with a goal differential of plus-13. In his most recent matches, Ferreira led the academy to its first victory in an international tournament. The team downed Leicester City in penalty kicks and Aspire Academy, 2-1, to take the Tri-Series Tournament in Qatar. Ferreira netted all three goals.
Name: Jesus Ferreira
Position: Forward
DOB: Dec. 24, 2000 (15)
Birthplace: Santa Marta, Colombia
Hometown: McKinney, Texas
Height: 5-8
Weight: 140
Nationality: Colombian
Transaction: FC Dallas signs Jesus Ferreira as a Homegrown Player for the 2017 season.

Re: FC Dallas Sign Jesus Ferreira
Great signing, but you can't really give FCD any credit for developing the player, as he only started at FCD when he was 8 years old. I mean, I'm sure he was hanging around FCD with his dad, but since he wasn't rostered at FCD as an infant, you really have to give the credit to his rec teams.
:-)
But seriously, I think FCD was worried that he might sign outside the US, with no compensation to the club. So good that they locked him up.

I really like this story. Good for him. Really excellent to see something like this for our area and FCD.
Just out of curiosity... Given that Jesus has now signed this contract, IF he chose to go to college after high school instead of playing professionally, could he still play for his college team? Or has he now permanently lost the option of playing in college?

Please explain.
Ferreira's dad was a great player for FCD. It wasn't politics when he won MVP. And his son is very good. I prefer FCD's strategy of taking a chance on local youth players rather than LAG signing name players.
When FCD signs Sealy in a couple of years will you say the same thing?
FCD is taking a chance on signing players this young, but it is a step in the right direction. The Hunts aren't fond of spending, so when some of these youth signings don't work out, will they become gun shy?

I have seen him play but you guys go overboard with this kid. If I have to explain politics then you need help.

well great for the kid but didn't a poster on here once say that if your dad was a select coach then you basically had your golden ticket to college already so does that go for bypassing college and going to the pros?

Envy is an ugly emotion... He is a kid, so what do you know about his potential that nobody else does??? He could be great, or maybe not... Either way, that kind of talk seems like it has more to do your personal shortcomings and an excuse for them... " Politics kept me down; life is rigged and those who prosper are lucky"...

Not envy. Its called reality. There are a lot of players with potential and the same potential as him but don't have the connections. Man Hana you are really green.

Not green, just don't think that life is supposed to be fair; I'm not an idiot! There are ALWAYS people who don't get the same opportunity for success in life, but the ones who prevail from the bottom didn't waste their time making excuses of how they would never get their shot due to some sort of conspiracy...

But you just said it. Some people do not get opportunity. No one is complaining I just pointed out how political connections help.

The sky is blue...
Knowing the owner makes it easier to get the job...
The earth is round...
If you can't read and comprehend, it is not wise to comment...
These are all things that are true in this world...
Just pointing them out too...
I bet you're a Rod Stewart fan hermano!!!

Trying to be funny is a sign of you being out of touch with the realities of soccer politics. You are the type of person who clings to other people's success. Would love to meet you in person to see what IDIOT looks like.

You would NOT like to meet me in person with that attitude... If you're even semi-intelligent, you'll figure it out... Maybe I am giving you too much credit on that one... Anyhow, CONGRATULATIONS Jesus!!!

You didn't miss anything...
Nothing real to miss there $ Grab, just Riquelme R talking trash on his way out the door... He likes to call names on the board, but that's about as far as that should go IMO... I don't think the meeting would be a very pleasant experience... Damn, it's just opinions here anyways, so I have no clue why he got so defensive in the first place...

So back to the topic......
I don't understand the purpose of signing him now. I don't see him playing in a game any time soon or will he?

The answer is in the first post. To avoid another Weston M scenario where a promising young prospect signs with another club, with no compensation to FCD. Plus FCD thinks really highly of him.

So what happens with these kids once they sign with the first team? Can they still play for the DA? Jesus was playing today in the U18 DA, but for how long?
