Here are my completely unofficial groups (after 10 minutes of spreadsheet fun)using the snake method and going solely off of YSR and just ballparking the completely unkown teams, which is not how it will be done...

There are several ways Classic can slice and dice this. But the most simple, effective and fair way would be to seed them in 10 Brackets of 6 using a snake format with the rankings.

It would look like this:



This way each bracket has an average ranking of 30.5. Seems like the most obvious way to go.

Dinged Elite, Liverpool, Rebels, and Kennington based on this past weekend. Bumped up Celtic, Allegiance,Volkan. Swapped Rush and Mckinney based on okay this weekend though that's a judgment call.

Suspect we'll see some FCD teams seeded higher than expected, could work for or against them depending on the teams in the bracket but wouldn't surprise me to see a bracket made to get FCD Youth and FCD Blue into D1.

Top 2 teams through. Winner of every bracket into D1. Next 5 highest point totals into D1, balance of 2nd place teams into D2. Re-seed and re-group remaining 30 teams into 10 brackets of 3, winners through to D2.

That group is YSR rankings of 1,22,23,54,56,281 which would be seeds 1,20,21,40,41

...but again, just one method and not the one they will use.

15 groups of 4 or 12 groups of 5 are probably most likely.

I'd be very surprised by 10 groups of 6

15 Groups of 4 makes sense. So does 10 groups of 6.
Not sure how 12 groups of 5 would work to make the Top 20 an easy decision without controversy...

Winners to D1. Top 8 point totals in 2nd place to D1. Other 4 to d2. Reseed and group for 2nd weekend to determine balance of d2.

Likely 12/ 15 groups.

Seeding:
40% - King tut performance
30% - Coach's ranking
20% - club name/size
10% - connections

I think it will be 12 groups of 5.

4 games each seems ideal.

Might flip King Tut and Coach's rankings but this is probably close. Maybe toss in 10% to 15% performance last 2-3 months though with signing mixing things up, might make sense to ignore prior performance to some degree.

You're probably right. But I don't think previous record will have an impact.
1 - Teams used too many guest players.
2 - Some teams were asked to create new gotsoccer accounts.

Some teams also play the GotSoccer game to hide past records. FCD is notorious for this going into Select.

King Tut seems like it has to be supplementary at best... it's a slippery slope of how to read into results without enough common opponents and strength of bracket. Seems very clear, even if a seeding mistake - -- all platinum / gold brackets just weren't comparable. You can only play who you play of course - but seems silly to weigh (too heavily) based on results . A 2-2 solar McKinney team for example vs 4-0 solar volkan ?

has there ever been this many teams trying to make classic? seems like teams that have never even played top competition are going out for the tournament.

Assuming this is true...

Bracket 1
#1 seed
#40 seed
#41 seed

Bracket 2
#2 seed
#39 seed
#42 seed

Etc etc etc

Then add in #1 playing #60, #2 playing #59, etc

Should be easy to back into implied seeding.

it says 3 cross over games.  So does that mean  each team will play 5 games?  2 from the bracket and 3 others?  Seems like 2 cross over games would suffice.  Just not sure I'm understanding it right.

Edit: thinking maybe they mean 3 total cross over games per bracket so each team in the bracket plays 1 cross over. who knows

Where did this information actually come from? The original provisional brackets were 20 groups of 3. That seems like a very strange way to do it, but not necessarily unfair if the the crossover games are like DS said, 1vs60, 2vs59, etc.

3 Crossover games / 5 games total would change things up.

#1 would play #49, 41, 60, 21, and 20
#2 would play #39, 42, 21, 20, and 60

Basically Group 1 would play Group 20, Group 2 would play Group 19, etc.

Other ways to solve for this I'm sure that keeps the schedule for higher seeds consistently easier than the schedule for lower seeds.

One thing this does is lesson the advantage of the higher seed as the average rank of a team's opponents don't change as much from #1 to #2 to #3 etc.
