would like to hear any recommendations on coaches that are actually developing soccer skills (i.e. passing, trapping, defense, etc.). tired of watching hero ball soccer and the infatuation with kickball. thanks for any input.

The things you are looking for can be done at home on his own. You don't need a coach to work on skills. You can find plenty of videos online to get touches on the ball. Have him do this everyday on top of his practice and you will see more improvement from that than you will ever get from a coach.

maybe I should have said from a team aspect. think a lot of coaches put kids in a box and are not interested in their development. I know it is a tough situation for a coach as their team success helps their recruiting efforts. my kid plays in D1, but we (he actually speaks his mind on this) are not interested in what division it is or what patch is on his arm. he wants to get better

Every coach in North Texas is committed to developing players and playing possession style soccer.   I mean, that is what every coach I talked to last June told me.
