Re: Primetime Thanksgiving Shootout
Great turnout with lots of teams!
Surprised to see Solar Fagen in Silver. I will predict they win the Silver division.
The Gold final will probably be Solar Dynamo vs Solar Crushers. Should be a great tournament!
...and, Solar should be paying me for this advertising

Just curious how all the teams decided to go to this tournament? Do the coaches talk?

Re: Primetime Thanksgiving Shootout
I think Primetime remains more popular for U9 teams because it's familiar and convinient (sp).
It's a US Club Soccer tournament (the same governing body for SDL) so they accept your SDL roster. The U9 teams don't have to go through the additional process of registering as NTSSA academy players so less paperwork/fees makes it more popular. I also think U9 is a transitional year.
U7 and U8 have to play Primetime because they're not eligible to play in NTSSA sanctioned tournaments. Moving up to U9, the coaches are still very familiar with Primetime. You will see more U10 teams registering is NTSSA tournaments and less in Primetime as they get closer to Select and start transitioning away from the Primetime/SDL/US Club mindset, but U9 is kinda in transition.

I am a bit surprised DT South isnt playing in this tourney. Maybe now someone else has a chance to win 1st place.

They're playing up in the DT Fall Festival.

More than half of Fagen's team is new. I think he wants to see what the new boys can do and the team as a whole.
Does anyone know why Renner is running one of his teams in the Gold as Solar Dynamo and one of his teams as Solar Blue in the Silver division? It has nothing to do with the roster. That was a big surprise.

New when? Before the Fall SDL season or have they joined the team since then? Why did he turnover half the team?

Yes, so he can double dip with the top kids. A few of his studs played with both teams this weekend. Is it Legal? yes, kids were in different divisions(gold, silver) is it ethical? depends who you ask!

What FC Dallas teams have been combined to form FC Dallas Premier 02? They looked pretty good.

The whole point is to teach these boys how to play soccer. Not to teach them to win. I feel really bad for Renner's Silver team boys. They had a group of top players that carried them through the whole tournament and then were left to fend for themselves.
Are there coaches out there teaching their boys how to play? Seems like I see a good team for my 02 boy that passes extremely well and executes. But then I see them doing some unethical stuff and hear about so much drama from the parents on the team. We need a team focused on good soccer not on making a bunch of superstars at 9 years old! Help

Re: Primetime Thanksgiving Shootout
Solar Blue in the silver division handled themselves just fine without the boys from the top team. Lots of growth and development has happened over the past year with all the boys under Renner's care. He is a great coach!

They obviously did well if they held Solar Fagen to 1-1. But the question is whether or not they would have made it to the finals without those Gold players getting them there. It seems that their coach didn't even think so.
Solar Dynamo is known for this kind of stuff.

Re: Primetime Thanksgiving Shootout
Does anyone know what happened to the Solar Crushers team in this tournament? They seem to play well in the SDL this fall and then did not turn out well in the tournament.

Re: Primetime Thanksgiving Shootout
For the Crushers, I think it was just a case of 8-9 year olds not being consistent, which happens. Crushers had a slow start and lost the first one 2-1 in a competitive game against FCD Premier, then played TFC in their 2nd game while TFC was playing its first. I think they out shot TFC 3x, but just didn't score. Also gave up one on a PK to lose 2-1. They won the last one 2-0 and out shot the other team 10x, but just not their weekend.

TFC Larry. They played SDL 2 during the fall and did very well. He is a good coach and works the boys hard.

Re: Primetime Thanksgiving Shootout
Interesting. If you look at the teams in the final 4 for both groups (Gold and Silver), it's dominated with Solar.
Why is that so?
Shouldn't a larger club like the Texans or FC Dallas have all the spots in the final?
Any idea as to why Solar is dominating over these much larger clubs?

Let's see how they dominated this tourney. First of all the top U9 team DTS 02 wasn't playing in that tournament. They were playing up in the DT Fall Festival. Second, you had Solar Dynamo players from Gold division playing with Solar Blue in the Silver division which probably helped them to the Finals. That's 2 good reasons how they dominated this tourney.

Re: Primetime Thanksgiving Shootout
I
I wouldn't say they are dominating, they're good. A lot of teams are still developing, this age group is exciting to watch should be intertesting to see how they all adjust playing 11v11.zemiblast wrote:Interesting. Re: Primetime Thanksgiving Shootout
Maybe some teams train more often than others and participate in more tournaments,
in some cases playing up a year thus giving them an edge over other teams?
But then there's the potential for injuries.
U9 is too young for soccer-related injuries.
Those will come mire at U12/U13.
