You start the thread but don't throw down your preseason guess?
Can anyone touch Solar even if the team catches a mild flu virus? D1 will be a battle for 2nd - 5th more than likely.

Re: 98 Boys Predictions for the Fall Classic League D-1?
Solar 98 would be among the top 3 in the 97 age group if they were to play up. No one is catching them this year.
I'm definitely thinking Tejanos and RP are the teams on the bubble this year - most at risk to fall to D2. I'll reserve judgement on the rest of the 98s until we see them in the Labor Day tournaments.

Re: 98 Boys Predictions for the Fall Classic League D-1?
Agreed that until someone takes Solar 98 down they are the team to beat. They lost a very talented sweeper but added some more firepower up front. Likely to give up a few more goals but score more goals. Will be interesting to see how Andro and some of the other squads evolve, as they all added some talented players. The team that plays as a team likely to do well, but not sure if Solar can go another year unblemished....
That's why the play the game. Let's hear it for a season without major injuries or any craziness on the sidelines.

Solar 98 is the best team in their age group but they are nowhere near the top 3 in the 97 age group. From what I saw last year might not even be a D1 team. They may have gotten better but top 3 in 97 is not realistic.eredivisie wrote:Solar 98 would be among the top 3 in the 97 age group if they were to play up. No one is catching them this year.

Maybe you saw the other Solar team in the 98 group. I reffed a few 97 D1 games and watched the 98 Solar (Smith) team play and they would spank some of the bottom 97 D1 teams. Top 3 is pushing it a little.True10 wrote:Solar 98 is the best team in their age group but they are nowhere near the top 3 in the 97 age group. From what I saw last year might not even be a D1 team. I've got to agree with the happy feet...not top 3 but 5 thru 10 they'd give a good run for the money.

Re: 98 Boys Predictions for the Fall Classic League D-1?
I saw Smith's Solar team. I wanted to see how good this team is and they did not disappoint. I saw them in the spring and they are very good and play great soccer. They would struggle with the size and speed of the 97s but they do not lack the skill. They also would not overwhelm 97s with their size and speed. The only time they did play 97s that I know of they tied an average team from Houston and lost to a 97 team that was relegated last season. They might give 5-10 a run but will lose more than they would win.Pompey Lad wrote:happyfeet wrote:Maybe you saw the other Solar team in the 98 group. Re: 98 Boys Predictions for the Fall Classic League D-1?
I know some of the other D1 98 teams scrimmaged 97's this summer - has this team? The proof is in the pudding. They do seem to be head and shoulders above the 98's. Was the one time they played 97's a scrimmage or tourney? Either way, impressive record.

Re: 98 Boys Predictions for the Fall Classic League D-1?
I was referring to a tourney. Do not get me wrong they are by far the best 98 team, they quite a ways from being a top 97 team. In 5 years if they stay together they could be the best team no matter the age group.mcdribble wrote:I know some of the other D1 98 teams scrimmaged 97's this summer - has this team? Re: 98 Boys Predictions for the Fall Classic League D-1?
I guess would be:
Solar
DT
Solar Red
Andromeda
TFC Royal
Tigres
Real Madrid
Revo
Pumas
Tejanos
Texans are improving and if indication from last year's State Cup final result, will give Solar all they can handle. TFC Royal, what can you say about them? They got spanked by Solar in the Texas Summer "Heat" Classic "royally" by the score of 7-0. Something is not right. Last year, they played Solar very close and almost beat them. Solar have to come behind both games. Let's see what DC can do to motivate them to play better this year. How about Andro? They are a very talented team but somehow not playing close to their abilities. They suppose to challenge Solar last year but somehow didn't even come close.

Soccernut - Wow... you have Pumas below Real Madrid and Rev??? Are you expecting them to slump this year? The only tournament they have played in this summer since signing was Puma Cup and they took second losing in PK to Solar Red... Why the large discrepancy? SR 3rd and Pumas 9th?

Re: 98 Boys Predictions for the Fall Classic League D-1?
No dog in the D1 show but I throw out a bone anyway
1. Solar
2. Andro
3. Pumas
4. Texans
5. Solar Red
6. Tigres
7. Real Madrid
8. TFC
9. RP
10. Tejanos
Very long fall and spring for the Tejano's ahead of them unless they picked up some serious talent this summer.

RQPS,
You have to excuse my crazy prediction because I had one too many tequila this morning . Reason for my prediction for the Pumas that low is that I heard they had lost some players to other teams. Please try not to execute me for my over the top prediction but rather treat it as me not having enough soccer knowledge in the DFW area and too much alcohol . Like comedian Jamie Foxx sang it "blame it on the alcohol".

Re: 98 Boys Predictions for the Fall Classic League D-1?
1 Solar best by far
2 Andro big fast inconsistant
3 Texans good D needs more O
4 Solar Red typical SR team with a bit more bite
5 TFC one bad showing does not make a season
6 Pumas/Tigres the team that picked up the other teams players
7 Real Madrid should be better but will not
8 Tigres/Pumas the team that had its players picked
9 Revo will struggle this year
10 Tej long season for the team that sits at the bottom

Pompey,
You had Pumas at #3 and Texans at #4 . Is there some events happened over the summer about the Pumas and Texans that we are not entitled to. Share the inside scoop will you?

Re: 98 Boys Predictions for the Fall Classic League D-1?
Agree with True10...by the numbers, SR98 would be approx D1 #7-8.. size, speed, strength means a lot at these ages.. In any case, they'll rule the 98s..True10 wrote:I saw Smith's Solar team. I'll take a shot...
1. Solar
2. Texans-did they add some offense to scoren consistently on D1 week in and week out?
3. Andromeda
4. Solar Red
5. TFC-may be downgrading them too much based on recent poor showing against Solar
6. Tigres-did they add some defense and a new GK?
7. Real Madrid-who expected them to be in D1? Can they sustain their late season finish?
8. Pumas-what happened?
9. RP
10. Tejanos-I know they added some players, but recent showing in tournament is not a good sign

Re: 98 Boys Predictions for the Fall Classic League D-1?
Here goes... I think you break up D1 into three groups
1. Solar... just a league of their own at this point.
2-6) Any one of these teams can beat each other on any given day.
Andro, DT, Pumas, SR and TFC
Andro probably takes this group followed by SR or Pumas.
7-10) The fight to stay in D1
Tigres probably win this group but I know they lost some offensive players. Tejanos squeak out the #8 slot to stay in D1, while RM and REV get relegated.
