Re: Player Feedback
If you don't have a good relationship with your BB's coach that is a problem.
I would ask "What do you think BB needs to work on most?" and I'd do it via email or text so your coach has a chance to formulate a thorough answer. I'd keep the tone of your note positive so that he/she understands you want to provide support to both your BB and the team.
Don't just walk up to your coach right after a tough game and ask a terse question. You aren't going to get the best answer in that situation. Give him/her a chance to get over the game that was just played. I know that after a game I usually have a lot of different thoughts racing through my mind. I need a chance to step back and calm down and process everything I'd just seen. The worst time to ask me a pointed question would be during or immediately after a game.

Are you comparing the responses on the girls forum to the advice from the boys?

Re: Player Feedback
Our coach does a full assessment of skills for our boys (U10). Then presents it to the boy and a parent present so that they know where he thinks they stand in development. Each skill is ranked on a 1 to 5 scale based on observing him during special sessions where a different coach shows a skill and then the player is to perform the skill. Then our coach takes notes. I'm sure he uses all experiences with the boy not just the rated skills.
A coach like Ferdie, for example, has a points system that he uses to rate a player, and I think you get awards when you get past certain levels. One of my friends' kids is a 600 I think. I don't know exactly how it works. Each coach will see different things in your kid. Hopefully they are sharing opportunities with you. Our son has had several coaches rate him at the end of camps or clinics, starting at about U7. It's always been a great learning experience.
I do agree with the other posts saying that you need to have a good rapport with your coach. If that is lacking, I'd be shopping for a new team.

Re: Player Feedback
I would certainly phrase it in a strengths/weaknesses manner.
Try to get as thorough an answer as possible.
Maybe even try to find out her ranking on the 'depth chart'.
Most important, be emotionally prepared for the response. (You may not like some of the things you hear.)Always good to know where a player stands in the food chain.

It's okay, the poster will probably have to ask the coach twice to get a "real" answer!

He is a type of coach who never has free time or doesn't think parents need to know about their kids progress.

Re: Player Feedback
What kind of feedback are you looking for? What are some of the categories of disciplines would you like to see evaluated? There are so many ways to rank a player. Let's name some.
Technical Ability
Tactical Ability
Physical Ability?
Situational Awarness (not enough emphasis on this one)
Decision Making (or this one)
Effort
Attitude
Anybody else have anything? What other things would you like to know from your coach?
