Copa ESPN tournament original birth certificates?
Copa ESPN personnel has requested that ALL team managers have their players' original birth certificates on-hand for this weekend's tournament.
Has the cheating gotten that out of hand?
Obviously they're doing this because of teams actually squeezing their old-@$$ kids on a young team.
If caught, the coach, player, and team should be BANNED from future tournaments and ESPN should report this to the other tournament organizers.
At least put the coach's name on a Watch List.
Good job ESPN.

Re: Copa ESPN tournament original birth certificates?
Certain segments of the youth soccer population locally have become very clever at faking any/all the documents required for such an occasion.
Checking validity really makes no difference. I've seen it too many times, just in the last 6 months alone, to believe it does.
In large part probably a gesture by the organizers to at least appear they are trying to do the right thing.
But it stops nothing, I assure you.
And it ain't just soccer.
Welcome to youth sports American style. Winning straight up, without and advantage, is no longer an option for many.
The new norm.

Re: Copa ESPN tournament original birth certificates?
This topic really used to piss me off, because I felt those of us playing by the rules weren't getting a fair shake. And we're not.
Now I just tell my son that it is what it is, and it isn't going to change, so you might as well get used to playing teams that cheat with older players.
Life, generally speaking, is also not fair at times.
I just tell him him to go out there and kick there ass regardless. Sometimes he does, sometimes not.
There is no teeth in the system that regulates cheating, so it will only get worse.

Re: Copa ESPN tournament original birth certificates?
Think about it like this--how hard to you think it is to create a "valid" birth certificate, from this country or any other, on today's printers with today's software???
Wouldn't cost much more than the paper it is printed on.
And this "valid" piece of paper is all the tournaments require.
I'm 41 years old, 6'10" 290, but if I could supply a "valid" birth certificate, who could stop me from playing in a U13 soccer tournament??
I'm exaggerating, but hopefully you get my point.
But I digress.

Re: Copa ESPN tournament original birth certificates?
Any team that is regularly changing players out during the season, you have to look hard at. And I have definitely seen it in our league (Classic D3).
But I agree CH1, at tourney time it can get ridiculous.

Re: Copa ESPN tournament original birth certificates?
The worst are the indoor games.
One of our Classic League '99 kids saw a kid that played against him in Richland on the field playing against his younger brother.
I think the parents and coach thought that they could get away with it because the kid was very short for his age.

Bwah, ha, ha!
No, the "star" has a totally different meaning.
My billiard room is decked out in nothing but cowboys paraphernalia.
The cowboys jersey's the ONLY jersey allowed in my house!
But, I do respect the STEELERS though. They do have the most Super Bowl rings.
I will always be a die-hard cowboys fan, sir.

This happens at every level even international... Fifa has problems policing this at the youth world cups that are held. As the players get older they will have to play against players who are older/younger, faster, and more agile... They might as well learn early on to play smarter. It will only help there game in the long run.

Also a lifelong Cowboys fan. Sort of ironic that Bradshaw lives in Dallas. Sure, they have 6, but Jerry owes me 2...
A quality defender could certainly burn a "star"...

Holy CRAP! How did you get that?!?
Lots of folks think it's because I'm a cowboys hater.
Yes, I heard that the Great Mr. Bradshaw lives in the Dallas area.
Sadly, I think the STEELERS may get 4 more rings before "our cowboys" get their next 1.
