Re: Best Indivdual Skills Coaches
My youngest is going to skills with two Solar coaches, they have group skills in Plano on Sunday's, but I know they also do individual sessions.
Terry Woodberry is a native of London, England and has played professional soccer for 14 years. He played for the Chelsea youth clubs in Europe. Terry formerly played for the Dallas Sidekicks and received many WISL honors. Terry has been coaching youth soccer for several years. He continues to play outdoor soccer and is a respected coach in this area.
Joey Kennington has recently moved here from Tulsa, OK. He is 24 years old and began his coaching career assisting at age 16. By age 17, he was invited to play for the El Paso Patriots the current PDL champions but stayed in Tulsa to play college and coach youth. By the age of 19, he became the academy director and coached u15, u12, u8, and u7 boys "A" teams for his club and his teams played in the top tier of the Oklahoma Premier League. He played college for Oral Roberts University and continued playing after his collegiate career for the PASL Tulsa Roughnecks & PDL Oklahoma Falcons FC.

What about a GK coach?
My DD and I are looking for a GK coach for the off-season, have tried several in the past, but are looking for someone a bit closer to home, in the South Arlington area. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Re: Best Indivdual Skills Coaches
Haven't found a bad skills coach yet - some I liked more than others. The thing to ask is who, other than your kid's current coach/club, is a good skills coach (that would take away some of the natural bias).
Some I've witnessed that I liked (none with clubs associated with my children):
Ferdie Adoboe, Terry Woodberry, Joel (used to be at Inwood, don't recall where he is now), Juan Sastoque, Diego Zaltron
Bobby Moffat camps are good for little kids just starting out (very early academy) - had mixed reviews on those.
The one thing I've found, other than Ferdie and my son's current coach (Josema Bazan) the drills are, for the most part, identical - so, it's more about the relationship with your child (and coach/ball) than the actual drill, IMO.
As mentioned too many times on here (or, TM, that is), I really believe Ferdie gives the kids a foundation where they can develop a relationship with the ball and it builds via play and practices. That's the only 'camp' or session where I saw immediate improvement and/or learning - but, keep in mind, there are so many factors that affect that (mainly, child's willingness to listen and apply what they've learned).
IMO - futsal, futsal, futsal. The results from playing that over years will show on the field.

Futsal, futsal, futsal. Countless hours kicking the ball at the park with dad or mom. Touches, touches, touches and creating that love affair with the ball. BB did his first skills lessons this year at U11 and only because the coach is a friend. I have read articles from Beckham, Ronaldinho, and even BB's skills coach. They all talk about the times spent kicking the ball with dad. That being said, Marcio if you can get in on any of his stuff. I hear great things.

Marcio's skills are excellent but make sure your BB has tough skin for his famous hair drying coaching!

if he is young you are still better than he is. Eventually he will pass you and Dad with his crappy soccer will make him laugh. Before then it is the experience and time with dad that will spur his love for the game. Thick skin definately helps. lol.

Re: Best Indivdual Skills Coaches
My preference goes to Frank who works at Inwood and Soleroll. He is definitely able to promote the love of the game to the kids, he works a lot on their confidence too and is incredible himself with the ball. Significant results will show within a month (I suggest 2 practices a week to sink it in the kid).Â

Personally I love Marcio Leite's skills. Yes you or better your child should have a thick skin but he turns it down quite a bit for the younger ones. Also Josema is an excellent skills coach.

Re: Best Indivdual Skills Coaches
gonna put something on here that I am sure everyone will smash. I watched a kid years ago working with a skills coach on shooting. 1 on 1 focused training. I am sure that kid ended up being better than most of his peers for years. Not because he was more talented but because he had more training. Eventually he will be caught by the kids who are just talented. I am not a huge fan of skills sessions especially at younger ages. Youtube, fox soccer channel, time to just imagine and play this is what they need. They need to have fun, enjoy the ball, learn to connect with it, to dream. The great players were not created by coaches telling them how to be great. It was instead their own hearts and imaginations. BB just started a skills at u11 and only because he loves the coach and always has fun. It's never too serious and the coach never tells him what he cannot do or how it has to be done. The coach is Brazillian BTW but only does the skills as a personal favor to BB and his friends. He doesn't offer skills sessions but does great charity camps during the summers.

Re: Best Indivdual Skills Coaches
I think any extra touches on the ball helps including skills training but I'm suprised nobody has organized some sort of "pick-up" games open to any and all of us during the weekend somewhere? especially for us super serious parents! oops kids! lol!go99 wrote:gonna put something on here that I am sure everyone will smash. would be great but would probably delve into people bringing teams and being coached to win. Would be great to have a weekend setup for the boys to just show up and pick teams then play.

Re: Best Indivdual Skills Coaches
I tried to set soemthing up like that last winter but none of the clubs I spoke to were interested. The idea was the first 4 are the red team, the next blue and so on and you play for 15 minutes and then switch around. No parents, no coaching just playing. Of course I thought it's a great idea but ...omega striker wrote:nope just show up and kids divide up or smallest ones pick first and just play no keeping of score and switch kids around after every so many minutes just play no pressure to win and no coaches allowed, lol! that includes PARENTS! just play for an hour or two and go home!go99 wrote:would be great but would probably delve into people bringing teams and being coached to win. Anytime too. Frankly I feel that we all know enough people around to make it happen. The next step is to find a place. So far the most convenient I have found is sole roll. Do we, as parents, can make it happen ?go99 wrote:BB would be game for some pick up soccer anytime.

The FCD liga was pretty much that - we did it one season and the girls loved it. It was basically first one to two - no coaching, throw them out there. The only thing that would have been even better is to have no parents watch them and not even have the coaches present. This was on the girl's side - so, if you didn't have adult supervision - you'd end up with the girls sitting in a circle on the field discussing nail polish. The boys would probably play - similar to any birthday party at an indoor facility - they just go out there and have fun.
