U.S Soccer Development Academy

Does anyone know how much is it to play in an Academy team?

Not involved in it but I have heard
- FCD is completely free
- DT, Solar and Andro waive the coaching fees but you pay travel expenses of 5K to 7K..

Heard the same thing directly from the players and parents curently participating. By far the best bang for your buck is FCD since it is for free. FCD is currently ranked #3 in the nation.

FCD appears to be the least expensive. However, it is not free currently the players must attend Frisco ISD. They practice (4-5days p/wk)in the mornings. You better have a tolltag or a lot of free time to drive the side streets. Do you math on tolls & gas paid for driving your BB to practice in Frisco in the morning to work and back to Frisco in the afternoon to pickup from school.

One other good thing besides FCD being free is there is no north bound morning traffic....

For the DT U16 a quick look at their record shows 9 away league trips of between 1 and 3 games each. A few to STX but others to KC, California and Colorado. I would imagine that when all is said and done the average would be about $500 per trip. Add playoffs and a tournament or showcase ( don't know if they do) and I can easily see over 5K in expenses. Now if you want to actually go too ...

You are forgetting someone has to pay for the coach's flights and top floor hotel suites?

really $500 a trip?? FCD or the other clubs. That sounds a bit on the high side. Do most of the kids play 4 years of academy Freshman through Senior year. Would love to hear the thoughts of those parents and kids.

If your looking for ROI then walk away from club too. I dont mean that in a negative way but a positive monatary ROI is not there for 98% of club/academy players.

Airfare $350-$450 unless it is near the holidays then it is about $100 more. 2-4 nights in a hotel 3-4 players per suite plus vans , gas and meals another $200- $300 per player. Add whatever pocket money your sending. The higher cost trips are balanced by the cheaper STX ones but then you are more tempted to go too (cha-ching). Travel costs really should not be any different then prestigeous out of state tourneys.
