1 Million Bucks: Richard Sanchez Sold to Tigres
Reports: Richard Sanchez Sold To Tigres
What do you think, did FCD get a decent price on the deal? One million US dollars.

Idiotic. These type of players need to be playing in the league and not being sold. When will the MLS learn it will never be on par with the European leagues...

It depends on who FCD has in line to take his place but I like this deal. Sanchez is very solid but he hasn't seen the field yet and FCD is already rock-solid at keeper. Sanchez was not a necessity for FCD to keep.
Keeping Sanchez here was ultimately going to hinder his career. I like that FCD is dealing away a player from a position that they're loaded at. Now they need to follow this up by reinvesting that $1M (or really $750K) on a player that can carry them to a championship or two. FCD needs another goal scorer.

Agree completely, this is great business by FCD. The club gets $750K in allocation money to invest into upgrading the team this summer, and the only impact to their depth chart is the 4th string keeper is gone. Given the #1 and #2 keepers are both relatively young, quality, and both signed long-term contracts this offseason, Sanchez doesn't leave a hole either now or in the near future.
Also, the reported sell-on clause in the contract sets FCD up to reap additional rewards in the future if Sanchez continues to develop into a top-quality keeper. This minimizes the downside risk of potentially selling him too early if he goes and dominates in the U20 world cup this summer.
All-in-all, I think this is well done by FCD. Ultimately if they are successful developing players through their academy, we'll start seeing more and more of these stories. The MLS business model gives HUGE advantages relative to salary cap and cost structure to clubs who can develop and sell players.
