AYSES Fun
County Road 317..cow pasture with do drainage...BALLOONS to indicate directions?...scheduling teams for 3 games at 3 different fields over a 20 mile radius(Is this too difficult to figure out how to make the seedings work?)....canceling the tournament after some light drizzle.....Officials who were more concerned with finishing the game to go to the house rather than calling an appropriate match?
Thank you AYSES and Sammy/Sammi/Sami(SP?) for a waste of a weekend...Your reputation was confirmed this weekend....
I hope that many/all will choose to avoid these disasters in the future.....

Re: AYSES Fun
If a city closes your fields I guess there is not much you can do but if you have to close because the parking is a mess due to the rain that IMHO is just unacceptable.
We are very sorry we had to cancel the 2010 Texas Winter Classic tournament. Unfortunately circumstances did not allow us to continue. We had three main complexes of which two could not be used after the rain. The FSC had half the parking space (overflow parking), not usable due to muddy conditions and Five Star at The Colony was closed by the City after the 2:30 pm games. We had about 400 games and three complexes. All the time slots had therefore been booked except for two. We looked at all the possibilities we could think of to avoid cancellation of the tournament, including shortening the games, moving games to available fields, having parents drop players at FSC and arranging for transportation to a remote parking place, using alternate facilities, and having cancelled games count as a tie. Any or a combination of the solutions could not be implemented, or created other problems that were potentially as bad as canceling the tournament.
Cancellation of a tournament is something we never want to do. It is the last resort. This is our eleventh tournament and the first to be cancelled. We have had weather challenges in the past but have managed to make it work. Unfortunately we were not able to do it this time around. We recognize the difficulties teams have to go through to be able to participate and apologize to all.
We will apply the lessons learned from this tournament and apply to future ones.
We thank you for your participation and ask for your understanding.

Ibra,
I think your comments are way out of line here.... No one, I mean no one has any control over the weather and to attach a teams reputation to Mother Nature and a Municipality?
If you haven't done so already, you should try volunteering the hours needed to get your clubs tournament ready and hope that North Texas weather does not effect it like it did here and the Texans tournament a few months ago.
When this kind of thing happens, and it will again...No one feels any worse than the volunteers putting in the effort to meet your expectations.

Well at least they are applying lessons learned. lol. How about applying some refunds? I bet if the cancellation hit the clubs bottom line, they would figure out a way to finish it. As it stands and cancelation only cost the participants. In the end, not a bad deal they cancel the games, cut expenses, pocket the money.

I'm right there with you!!
I agree this was a very poor run tournament. We were playing at the The Five Star Complex and they didn't seem to have a clue of how the fields were layed out. We showed up for our Saturday morning game at 7:00am for our 7:30am game and of course it was dark and difficult to warm up because the lights were not on. Also, the way the fields were set-up didn't match the map they provided the link for on their web site. They moved all the teams around, some twice, so it made it difficult to have a proper warm up. We showed up in the afternoon for our second game, which was suppose to be on the same field as our first game and they moved us again to a different field, and then we were told to move to a third field. Then we had to wait on the refs to show up. I also had issues on how they set up the gold and silver brackets and how they put classic teams in with the Plano and Arlington teams together. Let's just say we won't be back next year.

Pff it is funny, I have never complained to anybody in my life and had to begin with soccer ! I guess that's more important to me that verizon, ATT, mayor, cops, city services, lawyers, insurance companies and the very very long list of people who previously screwed me...I hope I am not starting some bad habits !
