Skills
Topdrawersoccer feature Pro-Prospects story on kids that give thanks to Chris Obara and the AYSES philosophy.
"“Skill development was introduced to them by Chris Obara at AYSES in Dallas, Texas,” Hunter said. “He gave me an understanding that technical development is very important to their ability to play at a higher level. To make sure our boys were in an environment that promoted technical development over an environment that focuses on winning. Without the technical development, the boys wouldn’t have been able to compete with kids in Holland or Brazil.”

It does not have to be AYSES.rdeal486 wrote:Oh wow, lets all run over to Ayses. Where do I sign?

The key is SKILL DEVELOPMENT in a soccer player.
Tell me where the SKILL coaches are that do this, I have looked...
not really found anyone. Skill coaches, skill, skill.
I can get playing time for my son anywhere.
I can find coaches to implement structure.
What I want is a skills coach ?
I am not a fan of Ayses, but skill coaches are worth double their weight (assuming soccer coaches who do skills are not that heavy) in Unobtanium.
To all skill coaches out there .
I salute you.

Re: Skills
Someone that may teach Elastico, roulette, hocus pocus, stepover, pullback, heel chop, Cruyff turn, and the garrincha. These are just a few of the skillful moves that I can name off the top of my head. There's many more. Some skills are taught at your club. These are 1 v 1 skills that may not be taught at your club demomstrated by pros in professional games.

Re: Skills
Ok we're on the same page, just checking. Our coach dedicates time to skills during training sessions.

Re: Skills
The Texans have excellent fundamental skills training for kids U10 and under. Extremely important to get the basics covered at the younger ages (Many of which AND! alluded to, and much more).
Tragically, for the indie kids who join larger clubs at U11 and above, skills development is an expectation, and sessions are no longer offered by any club that I am aware of.

Re: Skills
Tragic indeed Fins... it's my understanding that skills and technical training / development in some form or another continues well beyond U11 in other parts of the world. Why is it that major clubs don't make it a priority to continue that here in NTX at the same rate of other soccer nations?finish1 wrote:The Texans have excellent fundamental skills training for kids U10 and under. Re: Skills
You can be taught skills by Ronaldinho, but if those skills aren't promoted during regular practice and games it doesnt matter. When was the last time you heard your coach ask players about their skills during those big games. If its really about development it would happen "atleast" until age 16.
