2013 - 2014 Banter?
Anyone? Sounds like 1 tournament has been completed, another is in progress (no results posted).
Please provide some links if you have them for the results of high school tourneys.
Also, Remarks, comments, banter? Any teams impressed you?

Here is a link to the latest HS scores.

Haven't seen scores on the Klein tournament.
The Dallas Morning News had a pre-season write-up in yesterday's Sports Section. Let's hope they can give us some great coverage this season!

Re: 2013 - 2014 Banter?
Jesuit Meintser Tournament results from last night:
Jesuit 2 - 0 Bishop Lynch
N Mesquite 2 -1 Sachse
Belton 3 - 1 FW Nolan
Marcus 2 -1 Skyline
I only saw the Marcus/Skyline game. Skyline was a talented side and came out on fire, scoring just three minutes in. There was a second Skyline shot that was cleared by a Marcus defender right off the line shortly thereafter. Marcus took some time to settle in, but was finally able to move the attack out of their own end by mid-half. They equalized with 13 minutes left in the half, and went ahead three minutes later, and that was the end of it. Marcus dominated the second half and could have scored 2-3 more, and Skyline had no real chances in the second half. Gutty win for Marcus, considering how poorly they started, nearly down 0-2.
Jesuit vs. N Mesquite at 6:00 today, then Marcus vs. Belton at 8:00. Come out and watch some good soccer if you are in the area.

Re: 2013 - 2014 Banter?
Marcus 2-0 Jesuit
Marcus played better and better as the tournament went on. Jesuit had a couple of chances early but did not capitalize. Once Marcus went up a goal, Jesuit's attack broke down and they were reduced to mostly hopeful long balls. The second Marcus goal just before halftime was the proverbial nail in the coffin. Congrats to the boys for a well-deserved title.

Re: 2013 - 2014 Banter?
Depending upon your frame of reference, these (Marcus, Jesuit) are "traditional powers". Thus, this info. sounds like...
"same as it ever was". Any other results? There is often a Flower Mound tourney were Marcus, Coppell, other "traditional powers" participate. Will that happen this year / anyone have a link?
Any other Finals to share to show "who looks good, early"?

Grapevine Faith (3 time defending state champions in TAPPS 4A) won the Grapevine/Richland Winter Blast tournament, taking care of Plano, El Paso Americas, Southlake Carroll, Richland High and Keller High on their way to the Championship.

Those are some of your "traditional powers" falling to a 4A TAPPS squad. That must be one strong program, as evidenced by their three straight state championships.

Wow. I claim to know at least a little somethin' about local private schools. I stand corrected. I was not really even aware of the institution. Kudos to that school and soccer program.

I started to remark after the last post that I had seen Coppell the last couple of years and they looked quite good. That looks to be a very nice showing for them against Houston area and Austin Area teams.

Just to set the record straight Grapevine and Keller coaches agreed not to play the 4:30 game and what we were told by Keller coach is that the boys were Co-Champions. 4 games in less then 30 hours is to much. So maybe the Richland web page was incorrect? Who knows it's High School Soccer.

Ya, not so much. That may be what the Keller coach is telling everyone, but the reason the tournament website shows what it does is because that's the way it went down. Both coaches agreed to allow Keller to forfeit and have Grapevine Faith the sole Champion. This was decided with the tournament directors as well, thus the reason it shows up as Grapevine Faith 1st and Keller 2nd on the website. What is told to the Keller players, parents and admin from that side is up to the Keller coach, but the truth is both coaches agreed to allow Keller to forfeit and Grapevine Faith to be the Champion. And this was all initiated by the Keller coach.
Regardless, both teams fought hard. Both teams were tired and injured. So both should be proud. And again, we are talking TAPPS 4A vs 5A public school...

Re: 2013 - 2014 Banter?
So your original post that Grapevine Faith "took care of" Keller (in addition to the other schools they played) was not 100% accurate. That game was never played. Not to take anything away from the strong showing they had to get to the final, but that tidbit could have been disclosed up front rather than making it seem like a clean sweep.

True, I can see your point. In all fairness, they also only tied Plano 1-1 too but advanced out of the bracket ahead of them based on their play against the other teams in their bracket. But I was also trying to help Keller save face by not blasting it all over the intrawebs that Keller forfeited to a small private school team because their coach said they'd prefer not to play because their players were too tired and banged up. But since the other poster brought it up, it's out there now and just needed to be told from a more accurate account. So, you are correct, I guess you could say Grapevine Faith didn't take care of Keller, or you could say they did "take care of them" by allowing them to nurse their injuries.

I don't know much about HS soccer, but I know most of these guys also coach club teams. Just out of curiosity, what club (and color) is the Keller coach affiliated with, Solar Red '08?

Correct. And thus the reason why I didn't want to bring up this part of the tournament. Like I told another poster in a private email, the point of the post was not to be rude or mean towards Keller's coach or team, rather to brag on the fact that a small private school TAPPS 4A team not only competed but won against some of the top 5A public schools in the area. People are missing the point here with the post. It should be viewed in a positive light and not focused on the negatives that happened. Keller has a great team and one that I know Grapevine Faith would have loved to play. And Keller's coach is a great coach and has obviously proven that in all he does. It's just unfortunate the way this whole thing played out.

Re: 2013 - 2014 Banter?
I love HS banter! My favorite one from a few years ago was a thread called "Mansfield is unstoppable". Don't even remember the exact content/context; just chuckle at the braggadocio (sp?)
As I review one link posted here, drawn by the dialogue about the TAPPS school I didn't know, I thought, well that is impressive. They beat EP Americas. I think that is one of the usually strong contenders, yes? Quality win, methinks. Upon further review, EP Americas is shown to have beaten Southlake 5 - 0. Comments?

Re: 2013 - 2014 Banter?
Many good points were brought up thru this thread about the Winter Blast Tournament. It all comes down to the fact that Grapevine Faith showed up, ready and excited to play Keller. Faith had two starters out due to injuries sustained during the tournament. Was the team tired, yes. Would we have EVER opted to forfeit? Not a chance. Hopefully this small, private school squad earned the respect of some public school players and coaches this weekend. There is a lot of talent on this team and they deserve it.
Keller's Coach is a Club Coach for Solar. This is not private information. We will never know the real reason behind his decision to forfeit the Championship game. His players showed up to play. I saw several of them. What I do know is that the Faith team wanted to play Keller. Oh well, I think the outcome would have been the same. Like I said before, we'll never know.

01/14 Result: Marcus 4 - 0 Keller
I wonder if multiple games in a short amount of time last weekend had a lasting effect on the Keller squad. I know some club coaches that equate tournament schedules with multiple games in a day to child abuse.
