I heard this now several times. Can anybody please give me a logical explanation how this works with the quarterfinals of DC and why they are doing such a stupid move?

i like it because it allows 12 teams that may have deserved of shot at being in DC a chance. better than just going with wild cards. nice twist PLUS 12 MORE PAYING TEAMS

So they make a random tournament and the winner makes it straight to the semis? Teams had their chances to qualify and just because one tournament got rained out 25 times doesn't mean you have to bend over backwards. There are rules for alternates in place already. I just don't get it.

German. I guess if one of those 12 knock out your team in semi's you would have a gripe. Or I guess not because the better team would have one. It not our tournament to run lol

Re: Dalas Cup/ Adidas UEFA Champions Tournament
I know Solar entered the tournament. Somebody mentioned to me that this was done because Adidas is now the sponsor and to give some MLS teams the chance to play. Not sure if that makes sense but for me the entire tournament doesn't make sense.earbucket wrote:What teams are entered in this tournament? Are there any local teams and why is it only U14?

I am assuming all expenses will be paid if you are "selected" for such a prestigious tournament?

Re: Dalas Cup/ Adidas UEFA Champions Tournament
Is this tournament even happening?
Reviewing the Dallas Cup schedule shows that there is no semifinal spot for the winner of this tournament. The four semifinal spots are for the four quarterfinal winners.
Maybe they play one of the semifinal losers in a third place game.

Re: Dalas Cup/ Adidas UEFA Champions Tournament
Interesting: before Earbacket comment there were four quarterfinals listed with two wildcards. after his post, the quarter finals became three, with no wildcards AND magically the Young Champions-champion appeared in the semi-finals. They actually did not correct the brackets in the All Standings link. Impressed by the power of this forum!

They still haven't completely cleaned it up yet. Quarterfinal D has two teams (D and E winners) listed that are already in the other quarterfinals.
Do the DC teams feel cheated by missing out on two wildcards?

I guess it would depend on the quality of the teams that are partecipating to the other tournament. It may be easier to win the Young Champions tournament than to get to the semifinals through the Dallas Cup tournament itself. So, yes, I guess we would feel cheated if the Young Champions teams are not very good teams!

trying to pull 2 wild cards out of 6 brackets could be really difficult. 12 additional u14 boys teams get to participate in the shadows of the DC. and 1 lucky and skilled team will get a shot at one of the top 3 teams advancing to semi's. what a twist. i love it

"The best eight (Cool players of the tournament, as selected by adidas and the Dallas Cup Competition Committee, will be invited to represent the United States in the UEFA Young Champions 5 v 5 Tournament, scheduled for May 23rd, 2014 in Libson, Portugal."
Are other kids that are playing in Dallas Cup going to be considered for this "all star" team to Portugal or is it only for those playing in this Young Champions tourney?
I am sure there are very deserving kids that are in the U14 age group that are not part of the Young Champions tourney.
As a matter of fact, most of the better U14 players are already playing U15 age group in the Dallas Cup because they are on their respective Academy teams.
In short, are all "of age" kids in Dallas Cup considered?

I would say only the ones born in '99 as there are almost no '00 in the U15 DA. And I don't agree that the better players are in the PA/DA system, as many very talented players are in independent teams or can't afford the commitment to travel and extra training required by the PA/DA system.

I AGREE WITH LAROJA. ONE CORRECTION 99's play in u14 da but play in u15 age group because that is where that age group plays in club soccer.
