Who signs a release to practice?

Who signs a simple release to practice? Coach only? Coach, assistant, mgr and/or DOC? If you go based on the guest player form, it's the head coach only. Does the same apply for a practice release? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think there is a "simple" release. Well, not anything simpler than the guest release. As far as who signs that....well that would be anybody who knows how to sign something reasonably close to the head coach's signature. I hear.

So yeah basically what Randy said.

as 13 said. use the guest player form. under tournament write in practice only. be sure and be specific on practice days and hours in case your coach chooses to give you any grief down the road...

Coach passed the buck to the DOC. DOC is not replying to anything. Even a simple "no" would be nice. NTX said coach only.

Manager is fine. Sounds like the answer is "NO"

It can be a letter or form signed by coach but it must list the team the player is practicing with and the actual dates.


As per NTSSA rules:


3.10.1 No coach, assistant coach, trainer, or team representative may practice any soccer related activity with any NTSSA registered player who does not appear on his current NTSSA roster or is not considered to be a free agent by current NTSSA Rules and Regulations except for a coach, who at the request of another teams coach, substitutes for that coach at practice or games for the convenience of the requesting coach. A free agent is a player in the U-11 through U-19 age division who desires to participate on a competitive team and is not rostered to any team. A competitive player may practice with another team if he has received a written permission letter signed by his current coach that sets out the dates and the team with which the player will practice. The player is to give the letter to the coach of the team with which he is practicing, and he must keep a copy for himself.

3.10.10 Soccer-Playing Year for Competitive Players 1. NTSSA has established the seasonal year as being from September 1 through August 31 However, these rules provide that a competitive player is a free agent beginning July 1 That player will continue to be a free agent until the player and /or his parents or guardian have signed a contract with a team. The period of August 1 of the prior soccer year through May 31 of the current soccer year is considered the soccer-playing year for competitive players. During the soccer-playing year, players are not allowed to try out, practice, or participate with any other team, unless they are a competitive player in the same club or registered as a guest player with another team, in which case the proper release must be signed by all parties. Practice with a team on which a player is registered as a guest player is permitted only if the practice dates are included on the guest player release. A competitive player practicing with a team in the same club is permitted throughout the seasonal year. Otherwise, a player may practice with another team if he has received a written permission letter signed by his current coach that sets out the dates and the team with which the player will practice. The player is to give the letter to the coach of the team with which he will be practicing, and he must keep a copy for himself. After May 31 (the end of the soccer-playing year for competitive players), players may practice with other teams without any required release or other permission, although formal tryouts may not be held until July 1. Players wishing to guest play in tournaments must always obtain a properly signed guest player release. (See Rule 4.7.1.) Contracts may be signed beginning July 1, although signing July 1 is not mandatory. After July 1 players who are not or have not been rostered to a team for the current soccer year may sign a contract for the current soccer year at any time. (This does not include indoor soccer.) revised February 2015 34 2. Failure to comply shall result in sanctions against the offending party (coach, assistant coach, manager, parent, or other team representative), which could include suspension from all soccer activities for a period of time to be determined by the NTSSA Competitive Committee. Allegations against registered youth players are subject to review before punishments are considered and punishment periods are at the discretion of the Youth Commissioner committee hearing such allegations. NOTE: If a player currently registered to a team and/or his parent should contact a coach, assistant coach, or team manager to try out for another team, the above stated procedure must be followed. 3. If a player is released from a team in accordance with NTSSA rules for releasing competitive players, he/she is a free agent, and is allowed to practice with any team of his/her choosing without a release. The player may not transfer to another competitive team without following the NTSSA guidelines governing transfers.

The whole point of this is that your coach must give permission, and the coach you practice with has proof that it was "ok" to cover himself.

Good luck getting the form/note signed. When people ask for this, it usually means they intend to leave the team. Others hear about it and it becomes a contagion. The DOC may tell his coaches to not sign anything.

for future reference, next time get the "release to rec" by April 1 and go practice with anyone you like without encumberences.

This year is a bit wacky though, as normally CL is over before April 1 for younger ages. Hard to leave with over half of your Spring season remaining just to get a jump on the next season.

The coach has to sign. If he won't sign it then you are hosed.

Our coach will sign anything for anyone, if its not a direct conflict. Not in the business of holding 11 yr old hostages. Heck we had one (very valuable to the team) kid practicing with another D1 team for portions of the year cause he lived too far away.

Basically situation that we're in. Said we wanted the release to rec, felt bad with 5 games left. We took it back last minute. This team isn't coming back next year so not sure why the lack of replies from the or just simply saying "no". Oh well, you live you learn.

sounds if though you have some leverage. threaten to quit if they sign it

If it's one of the major clubs, there are ways to pressure the coach into signing it....
