Gothia World Youth Cup 2010 - Dallas, Texas Representatives

Youth teams from the Texas Longhorns Soccer Club have travelled to Europe to participate in international youth cup soccer tournaments proudly representing the USA. The Texas Longhorns Soccer Club 94 Gold team will be travelling to Gothenberg, Sweden, Copenhagen, Denmark, and London, England on July 16 returning July 29, 2010. The Texas Longhorns Soccer Club Gold 94 team will represent their club, the State of Texas, and the USA in the 2010 Gothia World Youth Cup (www.gothiacup.se) and play several friendly matches in London against English Premier League academy teams.



The Texas Longhorns Soccer Club was the first team from the USA to play in the Gothia World Youth Cup in Gotenberg, Sweden. In 2005, our 91 Boys team participated in the Gothia World Youth Cup and played friendlies against English Premier League teams in England. These players have now graduated, most are playing soccer in college, and they remember this experience as the highlight of their soccer career.



Our team did a variety of fundraising activities to support the costs of this trip including selling a large number of Sonic Community Cards. Many North Texas Soccer families supported our team by purchasing one or more of our cards. Some of you may remember our team and players. Thanks for all your support and some of you asked how you could keep up with the progress of our team in Europe.



The team will be maintaining a Facebook site that is updated with daily logs, game updates, pictures, and any videos that are taken. All visitors to our team page are welcome. Please wish us good luck!

Actually Dallas Texas has brought home the Gothia World Youth Cup the Dallas Texans have had boys and girls teams win the cup 4 times over the last 30 years. It is harder to win than the Dallas Cup especially at the older ages.

The Texas Longhorns Soccer Club Gold 94 team beat Torlanda IK from Sweden today 1 to 0 putting USA in good position to win the group. The Gothia World Youth Cup is like the FIFA world cup in format in that the top 2 teams in the group advance. The Gothia World Youth Cup is one of the most coveted trophies in the world for youth teams. The Dallas Texas have won the Gothia World Youth Cup 4 times in the history of the Gothia World Youth Cup. If USA wins group similar to USA national team in South Africia, the USA team advances to knock out stage as #1 seed in bracket of 32 teams. We started with 185 teams representing 75 countries and need USA to win tomorrow against the 4th place team in the bracket IK Grand Bodo from Norway to win the bracket. It may come to to goal differential and we are in the drivers seat. In Europe, most teams do not hold USA in high regard. They expect us to loose and just be having fun. We are having fun and are showing them we have good teams in USA and Texas and helping USA gain respect. Please cheer us on we have a long way to go but the boys are fighting for USA and Texas! The Texas Longhorns Soccer Club Gold 94 team won their group in the 2010 Gothia World Cup and 185 teams are now down to the final 32 matches in a knockout phase. This is a great accomplishment for our North Texas players to make the "A" Playoff bracket as #1 seed from their group. We play a very tough team from Poland tomorrow afternoon Salos Szczecin who beat the Al Madina side from Iraq 1 to 0. Wish us good luck! The winner advances to final 16 Thursday night.

Players are ready to play today the Salos Szczecin 94 boys team from Poland in the final 32 stage knock out round of the 2010 Gothia World Youth Cup. The winner advances to the final 16 stage and plays at 9 PM tonight (2 PM Texas Time) against the winner of the Selfoss (Iceland) - InterClubes (Brazil) match today in that 32 stage game. Wish us luck today!

USA beat a very good Poland team today 2 to 0. The Texas Longhorns Soccer Club Gold 94 plays Selfoss from Iceland at 9 PM Sweden time tonight (2 PM Texas time) at the Heden Center Field #2. Winner moves to quarterfinals of "A" playoffs only 3 matches away from finals on Saturday afternoon. Sammy Olali is coach of team.

Gee there are a lot of teams ! You guys are down to the last 16th out of 185, just in your age group ! I am browsing through the team names on the gothia cup website. It seems to be mainly from north europe but you mentioned that team from Poland and the other one from Irak. Did you run into anybody from the south part of europe (I actually just saw a Roma but they seem isolated) ? When you have more time you really will have to feed us with info. What's the level, technically, physically ? What style do they play ? How do you guys win your games ? ....In any case Congratulations and best luck to your team !

No way, so that was it ??? Amazing ! Ok now all  I need is a team and I will become the greatest coach in the world. Hey guys, do you have kids playing soccer ?

So what you are saying is just kick that ball up there, run really hard, and score lots of goals . I got what Gabadabadoo was saying. How's the comparative styles of play? Honestly could care less about the results. How does NTX stack up as players?

We are now in final group of 8 games.
We will play Västerås IK 1 from Sweden tomorrow morning at the Overasvallen field at 8:00 AM. Boys just showered and will end sandwiches at 11 PM then get up at 6 AM to get ready for game. Quick breakfast at 6:30 AM then off to facility.

There are teams from 75 countries including Africa, Middle East, South America, and Europe. U16 bracket has many tough teams most play very physical hard attacking soccer. We play possession soccer same style as Spain and FC Barcelona. We have won be applying tremendous pressure, controlling the ball, and creating alot of chances along with playing tough defense. We have very fast, athletic style of play with many one touch passes gives Europe teams alot of trouble.
Other U16 boys team from North Texas was Stars N Stripes with Coach Ed Puscarich they finished 3rd in their Group and are advancing in "B" playoff bracket play again tomorrow morning.

To get that far at Gothia is outstanding. I have one that won it and another won Helsinki and the competion is good.

I do have to ask...how many guest players did you bring with you?

Well we are finished we made it to quarterfinals and lost Friday afternoon to a very good Swedish team (top Swedish Club) 1 to 0. Game could have went either way this game the ball did not go in the net and theirs did. We did this with no guest players we brought 18 of our team members most who have played with us since pre-select. We have a good group of parents and players who have been patient and waited for development to pay off and now we are experiencing the benefits of this patience and players diligence and hard work over all the years.
There were no other US boys teams who went this deep in the tournament this year and winning the Gothia World Youth Cup is an extremely high accomplishment in a players youth soccer career. These boys were very close one game from semi-finals. We watched the Semi-Finals tonight and felt good we could play any day with those teams and compete on any given day.
Our 2010 - 2011 team should have a good shot at winning DI so that is level of competition we were facing some very strong teams from different countries. In the past, the Dallas Texans 94 and 92 boys teams won the Gothia World Youth Cup. They are essentially most of the academy team players now. USA teams have won the Gothia Cup it does not happen every year and is limited to a few age categories at the most.

Fassbergs IF is in Gothia Cup finals Saturday.

Congrats on the accomplishment.. truly a once (or twice) in a lifetime experience and the boys should be proud of getting as far as they did. I enjoyed following a friend's daughter's team last year through the Gothia Cup, it was very cool.

Actually it was the '95 texans that won. The '92 boys lost in the Qrts but went on to win the Helsinki Cup.

This is really a tough tourney. Great accomplishment especially with no guest players. This team has made a vast improvement winning 4 games and finishing 6th in league play to get this far at Gothia.

Well done.
