Re: Gothia World Youth Cup 2010 - Dallas, Texas Representatives
Just an update and thanks for all the kind words from all. Many teams and players we met from Europe from clubs that go every year said very few if any teams and players ever make the quarterfinals in the "A" playoffs for the Gothia World Youth Cup. This just made our players more hungry maybe we will go back again and bring home the cup to the USA next time.
It turned out the team we lost to in the quarterfinals moved on to the finals on Saturday and lost 1 to 0 to Karamba from Brazil. Both Fassbergs IK in Sweden and Karamba from Brazil are top club academy teams in their countries that feed the professional teams. What was great is that we were good enough to play with both of them and that our technical skill, athleticism, and knowledge of the game was comparable. Here is were where we are different in the USA versus these teams: (1) they practice and train almost every day and we are twice a week - they really played well together as a result especially on set pieces; (2) they had several really big players at key positions like 6'9" tall our tallest player was 6'4"; and (3) the Swedish team does alot of mental training like meditation - our boys relied on good ol" USA music in their headphones before the game and a cool pre-game cheer.
The players watched the finals in the big stadium today. It was televised on Viasat soccer TV channel live as was the semi-finals game. We were really disappointed we did not make it all the way or at least one more game to the semi-finals. The players in the finals marched into the stadium just like the FIFA World Cup picking the match ball of a stand at the entrance. The stood in the center of the field while the two national anthums played. The Gothia World Cup trophy was also on a stand. After the game, the 1 through 4 place teams each stood on the stand and they played Queen "We are the Champions of the World" for the 1st place finisher while they raised the Gothia Cup in the air. Each player in final 4 got a medal. The Champions had a bus without a top ready to drive them around Gothenberg, Sweden with the trophy to celebrate the victory.
One USA team did win the Gothia Cup this year the Colorado Rush Girls U15 team.
One final note, all of our players raised over $3000 each to go on this trip. It is possible if you start early and this was definitely the highlight of their youth soccer career. We are now in Copenhagen, Demark and head tomorrow night to London where we will tour and play two English Academy teams in friendly matches at their facilities.

Thanks for your note our improvement in performance over last soccer year was due to several factors: (1) we did strengthen our roster for this next soccer year picking up 6 new players of which 4 went with us on this trip - those 4 new players on the trip really helped us out at forward, midfield, and in back (last year carried 16 this next year 20); (2) we had a small roster last year with many injured players including many starters throughout the season - everyone was back and at full strength for this trip; (3) two of the new players actually started with our club at U11 stage and had played with other players on our team since pre-select days so their was great chemistry immediately on and off the field as a team.

Congratulations AYSES 94 Titans/ Andromeda 94 Titans/ AYSES 94 Gold/ TLSC/AYSES SC 94 Gold. A great group of kids have stuck together with a fabulous coach through a lot of changes and ups and downs. It's wonderful to see your success with tournaments this spring and summer. Good luck with the rest of your year.

Final Wrap Up for Tour
I have finished posting over 170 videos taken during our 2010 Gothia World Youth Cup trip and London Tour. The videos include our time in Gothenberg, Sweden and show some game highlights from the team playing in the Gothia World Cup. It also shows the team in Copenhagen, Denmark. Finally, it covers our two friendly matches in townships outside London, England including Luton Town Football Club and MK Dons Youth 16 Year Old Academy teams and our time in London, England. This included a private tour of the Chelsea Football Stadium and facilities including the player's locker room, press room, and of course the fields of Stamford Bridge. We also took guided walking tour of London.
It took the team over 9 months to raise funds for this trip and we had 18 players, 9 supporters, and our coach go on the trip.
I highly recommend that team's try to do a similar trip after the Sophmore year of High School. It was very special for the team who most players had played together since pre-select to go on this international tour. It surely will be the highlight of their youth soccer career. The players matured, became very close, and now have more confidence as they enter their final two years of youth soccer.
You can access all these videos, notes (blog entries), and photos on the link below.
Good luck to the all the 94's for the 2010 and 2011 Classic League soccer season which starts next week-end. Our first match up is TLSC/AYSES vs TFC 94 which is one of our favorite games to play. Should be a great match!
