POWER RANKINGS / ROUND 2
If the Classic League did one thing right it was to put the 04 age group to the test over a two round process from the 23 teams vying for the coveted 8 spots. Smart teams did their due dilligence and scoured gotsoccer.com for historical information. Saavy team operatives kept a close eye here at the txsoccer.info for any telling info such as why a team is still looking for just those last 3 pieces to complete a "good core", or worse yet still looking for a goalkeeper after July 1st? Tells, all tells.
That is until the games actually began in Round 1 of the challenge games when the questions changed to-
"They don't look the same?"
"Where's that kid from the tournament?"
"What happened to their offense?"
"Did they change their name?"
"Who did they combine with?"
And "Where did they come from?"
So now coming into Round 2 the 4 brackets are set and as implied, the number one seeds have been spread out- but you still have to play the games. Round 1 exposed the haves and the have nots and of course some are still sking their heads at how the previous seeding ruled out some potential advancers which is always the case in tournament play. Keep in mind the Age Pure shuffle, advancing byes which have proven to be a major shakeup.
So now the reason for this post, the aforementioned Power Rankins.
This is a snapshot number using the limited data from the Round 1 games. Keep in mind that these are the teams with their set rosters, and their strength of schedule is not factored in. What is factored in is every game, every offensive performance, every defensive performance and every goal scored. (The equation is roughly average goal differential plus/minus record divided by 2 which yields a number.). The number represents an above average or below average strength of team vs. an average team.
So a 2.5 represents 2 1/2 goals better than the average team in the field, or conversely a -0.5 represents a team that is playing at a rate of a 1/2 goal worse than the field.
