Any predictions on the magic point number to avoid relegation this year? Is it the bottom 4?

My guess is 12. I think Fever will eek out 3 wins against the bottom of the table to avoid relegation.

Bottom 4:
FCD W Blue
LP St John
Tigres
TXN South

Vegas Cup-
It was a Solar party in Vegas this weekend as McKinney, Martinez, Volkan, and Lanier made the trip. Anyone know why Kennington wasn't invited? (insert joke here).

Gold Division-

McKinney did well to win their group including a 3-0 win vs #13 (YSR) Legends squad that went on to make the finals. They did unfortunately lose to #7 Strikers.

Martinez had an easier road (according to YSR) and secured a wildcard to advance. Only to get knocked out by #1 AC Brea (Tourney Champ). This showing proves they are a legit contender for promotion to D1 next fall.

Volkan did not advance with a record of 1-2 but were respectable in both losses with a score of 1-2 against #43 and #58 ranked teams respectively.

Silver:

Lanier went 2-1 for 2nd in bracket but didn't advance as they only the top team from each.

Overall respectable showing from NTX boys. SoCal reigned supreme in the knockout stages though as all 4 teams in semi's came from that region.

Side note-even thought the US had a solid showing at U17 World Cup a couple months ago...how is it possible that no West Coast players were on the roster?!?!

Anyone that made the trip and can add some first hand experiences please share!

Great tournament.  Wish we (Mckinney) could have made it a little farther than we did.  The match against Legends was amazing.  Our boys were prepared and played at their best for that game.  Legends came out fast and must have thought they were going to surprise us with their speed of play be we matched their speed and controlled the ball very well.  We had the first opportunity to score getting through 2 defenders only to get fouled in the box by their last man.  I almost got kicked out of the game yelling at the ref after he pulled the foul back inches outside of the box with only a yellow card awarded (it was my BB that was fouled...hehe).  We converted on that free kick and from there it was our game.  I don't think they though we were going to control the game the way we did nor keep them from scoring.  It was a great win for North Texas soccer.  Also, AC Brea had several of their BBs guest playing on the Legends team for this tournament.  From what we were told from some of the Brea parents, as Brea is not a DA club a lot of the Brea kids will start to make their moves to DA clubs from now until signing day.  Another Brea dad mentioned that Galaxy was interested in the whole team coming over.  It's always fun to talk to other parents of other clubs outside of NTX to hear their stories and drama are pretty much the same as what we see in NTX.

Our quarterfinal game was initially going to be against Solar Martinez and I think up until 5-10 minutes before the game that's who we thought we were going to play.  They switched us at the last minute to play Strikers who we honestly knew nothing about.  They completely caught us off guard in that game.  I think our kids were just mentally prepared all day to play Martinez.  Not to take anything away from Strikers because they were a solid team, we just didn't play our A game against them.  We were really hoping to get to play AC Brea this tournament.  We have been wanting to play them and they us ever since Supercopa.

Overall a great opportunity.  Wish we could have more opportunities to play the SoCal teams as they are great competition but the only tournaments we see them at are Supercopa and if we go out to either the Vegas or San Diego tournaments.  It would be great to have tournament agreements with SD Surf and/or other SoCal teams to get their teams out here and our teams out there more often.  But I can understand the travel expense that is associated with that can be hard.

Unfortunately, Mckinney had their poorest showing at the wrong time after advancing. Could have done better than 4-0 against a good but beatable Strikers Irvine team that went 2-1 in group play.

In a reminder that these are 10 yr olds and that anything can happen, Strikers lost to a SD Surf team that lost to Martinez in group. This group stacked up points against each other to send 3 of 4 teams to the knockout round. 2 of the 3 wildcard teams came from this group as three teams in the group ended up with 2-1 records.

Volkan’s group was the tightest with a goal or less difference between every game played. Volkan’s win came in their last game, a solid win over number 20 ranked LA Galaxy South Bay.

3 separate teams from Solar showing respectfully against some of the better teams in the country. I personally would like to see what Solar could produce if the could pool their talent a little better like Texans or FCD. McKinney’s team is a really good team, and easily the best team at Solar, but still a few pieces away from being a truly elite that is feared nationally.

Perhaps Ant_knee’s comments demonstrate one of McKinney’s biggest strengths, that may also be one of their biggest weeknesses...game planning. McKinney is a master at tactically preparing on how to win against a specific opponent on a specific day.

Winter hibernation is finally coming to an end.  Before we jump into the rumor mill or try to get ahold of game film to break down how Rush dismantled FCD Academy yesterday, we've got to take care of some business.

Time to put your soccer expertise on full display as the Spring Prediction season is upon us.  Thanks to all that participated in the Fall.  The Spring is a whole new ball game...all scores reset so no excuse for not participating this time around.  The scoring system, rules remain the same.  We will drop the lowest score so if you miss a week due to illness, vacation, or just having a life, no worries!

Week 1 predictions-
Kennington v LP St John  5-0
LP Owen v Allegiance  1-3
FCD Blue v Celtic  1-1
Rebels v McKinney   1-2

FCD ETX v Ayses  0-1
Fever v Wildcatters  2-2
FCD Youth v FCD Academy  0-6

Could anyone provide some insight as to where the D-1 FC Dallas teams train? I’m pretty sure 07 Academy (Gall) train in Frisco, but what about 07 Boys (Suarez), 07 Blue (Che) or 07 West Blue (Adrian)?

West Blue likely trains at Covenant Church in Colleyville along with the balance of the FCD West teams. I believe the balance train in Frisco.

Kennington v LP St John 5-1 - After a shaky fall season, are Kennington's boys back in form?

LP Owen v Allegiance 0-4 - Will Allegiance be able to dominate possession against the better teams?

FCD Blue v Celtic 2-1 - Celtic on a speedy decline?

Rebels v McKinney 2-2 - After trashing Texans Red it seems like the Rebels are the real deal. Will they be able to prove it against the best teams?

Tigres v Elite 0-3 - Is Elite actually Elite or will the schedule be too tough?

FCD ETX v Ayses - 1-3 - Ayses are The kings of surprise wins... will luck stay on their side?

Fever v Wildcatters 2-1 - Relegation battle, will they survive?

FCD Youth v FCD Academy 1 - 4 - Last weekend was tough for the Academy boys. Will they bounce back or continue to struggle?

FCD W Blue v TXN Dallas 0-4 - Quiet break for the Texans. Can they go undefeated?

TXN South v TXN Red 0-7 Undefeated season for these Texans too?

I’m looking forward to seeing how much work has been put in by these boys and coaches over the winter.

If recent results in tournaments and indoor leagues are any indication some teams are going to have a rough spring and some are going to cement their kids on a DA roster .

Mostly agree.

I don’t think Academy should be dropped that far as they still have quite a bit of talent even if they don’t seem to be playing as a team. Coach Gall you listening? Probably not.

DT Red has had a very rough winter in tourneys and even in indoor although it looks like they had 2 teams ? Do they have a b team now?

I think Salazar has run a second team since PST. He will also play his kids on different teams. He will enter his 08 team in 07 leagues and tourneys with some help from his 07s. Sometimes calling them 08s or sometimes calling them a bronze team. Also some 07s will play up in 06 with an 06 bronze team. It seems to be very fluid.

Rather than power rank the top 10 - to be fair Baller07 did an adequate job - I'd like to highlight some questions each team must answer over the next 3 months.

In order of current standings:
Tier 1
Rebels - Have proven they're not a fluke but can no longer surprise anyone. Early games vs McKinney and FCD Academy will either solidify their spot or poke holes in their armor.

TXN Red - Reports I've gotten over the winter is that a few players seem to be in a slump. Not much time to snap out of it as the early schedule is as brutal as it gets. This is a top 6 team no matter how you slice it but I see them tumbling a few spots in the standings.

FCD Academy- Still the best overall collection of talent, but need to start playing like a team as their Spring Schedule is by far the toughest.

TXN Dallas - The best defensive team in D1 for my money. If their attack finds consistency, they could be standing on top of the podium when its all said and done.

Solar McKinney - Top 3 team in terms of talent. When they bring their A game I wouldn't pick against them. Not sure if they're lacking a killer instinct or just 10yr old inconsistency. I think they'll end up top 3 when its all said and done.

Allegiance - Can't compliment them enough for the improvement they've shown. Can't wear the underdog mantle anymore. Need to prove they can be consistent this spring.

Tier 2
Elite - Definitely had a rough patch last fall but finished strong. Don't really know what to expect from them but I suspect they'll have a tough time holding off the rest of the tier 2 teams (6-10).

LP Owen - The Rodney Dangerfield of D1. Every time you try to count them out they come back fighting. They rely on physical play when they fall behind and are a tough out.

Solar Kennington - Another team that needs to find more consistency to take the next step. Still a tier 2 team but I wouldn't be surprised to move up a few spots.

FCD Youth - An athletic team but I think they benefitted from a weak Fall schedule. They may benefit from addition by subtraction...loss of a couple of players but may solve their issues with playing time and improve team chemistry.

***For what its worth, Rush is absolutely a tier 1 team. They have the best midfield combo in the area and are very well coached.

Post by 07 boys soccer 2/2/2018, 4:57 pm

my current rankings:

Tier 1
1) FC Dallas Academy- shaky end to last season and just got blown out by Rush 8-2, but still the best talent, can the coaching and team come together, still the best overall record going back the last nine months against top competition,
1 *)Dallas Rush- not in D1 but by far playing the best soccer currently out of anyone in the area, scoring and holding opponents to low number of goals, beat Texans Red recently and FCD Academy as mentioned above, consistently beaten up on D1 teams since last fall, as mentioned best midfield in the group

2)Texans Dallas- started to give the #1 role, great striker up top and very strong defensively, nice one touch soccer, I think they could end up on top when its all over

3)Solar McKinney- outside of FC Dallas recently who they lost to, and they beat that team 5-2 in the league, great talent and very strong and physical team, a little more direct play

4) Rebels- still hard to tell how good they are but have lost to FC Dallas and Rush in last nine months, has not played in a lot of top tourneys, about to find out how good they are, can they hold onto their forward after this season

5)Allegiance- played FC Dallas Academy 2-2, strong possession team and well coached, need to attack a little more with their possession, but they do a great job of making you chase and will wear you down if you are not physically ready to play

6) Texans Red- have not played in many tourneys recently so hard to tell, very direct long ball team, lost and tied Rush recently and could have a tough spring, we'll see

Tier 2
7)LP Owen-up and down but seem to be getting better and finding their form, very physical

8)Solar Kennington- up and down but seem to be finding their form

9)7) FC Dallas Youth- talent but have a hard time playing as a team, with less numbers should help in the spring

10)Elite- very poor form of late, lost one of best players to brother team Allegiance last fall, also blown out by Rush in recent tourney

In 2017, it looked like Texans Red couldn’t find a tournament they didn’t like. After 2 ties and a Loss in Bobby Rhine, they went dark? I know Salazar is about to get married, and that may or may not be related to the hiatus...but part of me is a little scared that they holed up somewhere (the attack room) and just went to work on getting better...or focused on recruiting Wink Either one could be trouble. It’s just not like them not to play tourneys.
