It was actually the night before last. It was an attachment to the email about the 10min halves...but now it changed again...15 min halves.

Re: Ibercup 09
I really hope all the teams discovered the schedule and actually show up to the games!!! Some of them start at 8AM!!!
I completely agree that the schedule section of the IberCup website should either have the correct schedule, a link to the spreadsheet, or at least a message about how to find the schedule.
Facebook would be really easy as well!
Of course right after I posted this, I saw the scheduled is starting to change on the site.

Re: Ibercup 09
From the schedules, to the alternative solution. From officiating, having 1 ref only per field , everything was a last minute decision , changing play off scenario multiple times , and I heard in the final there was a team that got robbed of first place just ridiculous,
And absurd, I’m sure not many teams will return, also
Way too many local teams out there to compete each other for the money

Re: Ibercup 09
Just looked at the final scores. I don't believe for one second that those are the two best teams in the tournament. Lucky trumps good sometimes. I am just going to guess that those final two teams were Boom Ball teams just wanting to win with a lucky bounce to compensate for the 2 or 3 actually good players they have. Got to love USA soccer. So glad I didn't have see this stuff this weekend. Remember winners, its an expensive trip to Brazil to get beat badly by teams actually playing soccer. Enjoy the debt.

Re: Ibercup 09
We have played this tournament for 3 years at several ages and have always enjoyed it. Perhaps a few less international teams this year, but otherwise didn’t think it was that bad.
They usually try to get 1 international team in each bracket (or at least some big name out of state teams), but some ages were pretty light.
The youngest groups are especially difficult to pull international travel. Those ages usually only travel if the club has an older team already attending Dallas Cup.
I probably wouldn’t have done this tournament at U-9, maybe hold off until U-10.
The single ref with no offsides is FIFA standard for the age group. Most of the 9v9 games used tandem center refs and no linesmen, but it seemed to work OK (although some fields had Linesmen and a single center).
I think the biggest issues this year were communicating the changes and inconsistent rule hodor from game to game. Headers, punts, drop kicks, etc.
I’m sure we will play in this tournament again. (But probably skip the opening ceremonies...we let the kids talk us into going again this year)
Congratulations to SPFC for taking the 09 Championship!!
Tournaments are about getting out of group play and making a run. It’s not always the best team that wins the tournament. You’re absolutely right that luck plays into it, especially in the shorter games.
(And, yes, all tournaments are money grabs!!!!)

Re: Ibercup 09
I agree with on not the best team wining in this bracket , honestly it looks like the luck was with this team and it took them 3pk games to win and couldn’t win the final games in regular play , doesn’t look good when going to go play against teams, across the country that actually play soccer sorrynotsorry

So what was all the final controversy? Heard it involved penalty retakes after 45 mins.

Yes, please someone fill us in. I heard rumors FCD really won... and its still undecided. Is there a formal protest or just mad parents? I hope SPFC didn't start the social media gloat phase already.
Funny no parent ever posts a photo of their kid holding a trophy with the caption "We barely won this. Actually, it was all luck. My kid never touched the ball just watched it in the air, we just kicked the crap out the ball and some weird bounce off their defender gave us the win! But hey look at this future garage sale item we won"

I don’t think IberCup has anything to do with anything that’s wrong with our system...they’re not even from this country! They are from Portugal!
I stand by my quoted statement above.

Re: Ibercup 09
Stand all you want, as your kid trains to pass and coach promises he is a possession style coach and then decides winning is more important to keep the morale of his best players so they don't leave and switches to boom ball to "make a run".
The attitude I was referring to was the USA's and North Texas win now, mama wants a trophy attitude and not - how do we develop players who can compete with the world.

Backdrop photo: grinning boy in a bright clean white uniform holding a shiny trophy wind whipping tourney flags in background
Caption: Little Johnny dominated today. He had 10 crazy-ass kicks up the field. Heck he didn't even look - had no clue where those suckers were going. But Coach yelled "Send it!" and boy he did. He is the best, man this kid is going pro. #USMNT2028. Watch out Pulisic, little johnny just killed it. Pre-DA I don't know what that means but hells yes my kid is that. So be impressed people.

Re: Ibercup 09
You obviously have no idea what teams my kids play on. Make no mistake about it, my kid’s teams are not “possession style” teams and anyone who’s seen them play would tell you that!
They are a bunch of kids having fun and they’re pretty good (most days). We are not trying to change the world or make a national team. They “develop” at practice (if they are focused that day), during league play, and at local tournaments.
If you pay the money for IberCup, Surf Cup, Vegas Cup, Disney, SuperCopa and tournaments like that...you are playing to WIN and bond as a team, making friends that might just last a lifetime.
We have hosted a couple teams and been hosted by teams at tournaments. It can be a great experience for the kids if us parents just stay out of the way.
I’m not making any personal attack’s or accusations about you, your children, or their effect on the US soccer culture, I would appreciate you do the same.
For the record, none of my kids won any trophies or medals this weekend...just slept well on the car rides home.

Read your post singing " Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya, Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya"
I am not saying don't make friends, but can we please make friends and learn dirty words in other languages and all that crap while trying to play some real soccer instead of just doing the easy safe no skill does not prepare our kids for real soccer kickball. CAN I GET AN AMEN!

Re: Ibercup 09
Soccer is not “one size fits all”. I’m tired of the “real” soccer debate that has been going on for A HUNDRED YEARS.
Not everyone is trying to get more out of soccer than a fun afternoon with the family.
Sure my kids are happy if the win something, but they’re not crying if they lose. My youngest has never one a trophy or medal outside of rec.
IT IS NOT ABOUT TROPHIES!
I’m sorry this tournament has you so upset, but stop loosing your emotions in my direction...I have nothing to do with your problems.
