The Cost of Rec Soccer
I just registered my U7 for rec play in the Lake Highlands Soccer Association. The cost was $90.00 for the Spring Season. Considering that each team has 10-11 players, that would come out to $990.00 per team, inclusive of referee fees(1- middle). In Classic League, the Spring fee is $725.00 plus referee fees(1-middle, 2-assistants) of $450.00,totaling $1175.0 per team, which for 16 players comes out to less than $74.00.
Classic League = 9 games @ $74.00 per player.
LHSA Rec = 10 games @ $90.00 per player.
Am I crazy???....
Would Moss field be more expensive than PHP or Richland? Does it not cost more to have 3 referees -vs.- 1?
What in the heck am I paying for?

Re: The Cost of Rec Soccer
That is a quite expensive. Is part of that a late fee? Uniform included? Different associations are run differently, but our local association is only $60 for a U7 player and we assign 8 players per team (4v4) coming to $480 per team for 10 games. That covers the cost of:
Association Registrar (files paperwork with NTSSA)
Game Scheduler (paid position in our association)
Ref Assignor (paid position in our association)
Referees
Field usage fees (paid to the local city)
NTSSA player fees
NTSSA coach fees
Participation Trophies
T-shirt (one per player and coach in the spring only)
Registration software/database like Sportspilot or Gotsoccer
Other miscellaneous costs likely include:
Advertising
Web Site
Long term costs like goals, nets, flags
Other overhead like office rent, utilities, part-time office manager
I'm probably forgetting something, but our association is covering all that for $480 per team at that age so your cost does seem high. Maybe it's scale. We're in a very large association so able to spread overhead over a lot of players...

Think you have it bad?
Denton Soccer Association
Fall - $105
Spring - returning $90, new $105
$105 includes uniform kit. Returning players in Spring save $15, because their NTSSA insurance is good for the Fall & Spring. However, they don't get a new uniform in the Spring, so you would think the Spring fee would be lower. WRONG. The association is so far "in the red" in the Fall, that they use the Spring registration fees to catch up and hope to break even.

Re: The Cost of Rec Soccer
Considering rec is all volunteer (coaches and board) it does seem like alot of money. I suggest you ask to see a balance sheet to see where the money goes. I don't think the rec leagues are getting rich off this by any means-just trying to keep above water. I believe uniforms cost appx $50-60 per player and insurance registration cost appx $20 per player, then there is field fees, referee fees, porta potty fees, etc.....it adds up fast.

Re: The Cost of Rec Soccer
As a ten year veteran of a rec soccer board I can tell you that it is amazing how fast it adds up. We are a small association and our $70 per player does not cover the cost of the program. The rest is made up with business sponsorships. With budget crunches to cities, field fess in many places have doubled or tripled in the last couple years. Things to add to the things already listed by other posters; $1,000,000 liabilty insurance ( on top of the $14 per player to NTX), bonding fees for all officers with banking privledges, any camps(no one makes any money on them), skill clinics etc. Some associations maintain their own fields and that is very expensive.
Ask to see the treasurer's reports. You will be surprised.
