Post by IC75 5/16/2011, 8:36 am

I need some help in trying to figure how Got Soccer point system works.

U16 Boys division 1, Solar Red comes in 1st and receives 860 points. Solar comes in 2nd and receives 1998 points.

Good luck figuring out the GotSoccer points system. I went down this path a year or so ago, but gave up and decided instead to spend my free time re-deriving the theory of relativity as I figure I have a better chance understanding that.

One major flaw of the GotSoccer points system (IMO) is the low points value placed on Classic League performance. You can spend the whole year winning D2 and get less points for that then placing 2nd in some local spare tournament with almost no classic league teams participating. If you really want to stack up GotSoccer points you are better off not playing in a league but instead just finding easy tournaments to enter.

Got Soccer point system Empty Re: Got Soccer point system

Post by Gkeeper 5/16/2011, 8:57 am

This is what it says on GotSoccer. Hope it helps.

The flight value and tournament ranking for each event changes from year to year. We cannot guarantee a ranking for any event. For events using our software we are able to set the flight value as early as one week before the event is held. For those not using our software we cannot determine the flight value until after the event is held when we enter the results.

GotSoccer Rankings awards points based on which teams you defeat and on your own national points total.

Each tournament's flight is assigned a value based on the top 5 teams in the flight. The points contributed by each team is calculated based on their national rank. The point breakdowns are as follows:
Teams in the top 1% contribute10000 points.
Teams in the top 2% contribute 7500 points.
Teams in the top 3% contribute 5000 points.
Teams in the top 5% contribute 2500 points.
Teams in the top 7% contribute 1250 points.
Teams in the top 10% contribute 625 points.
Teams in the top 25% contribute 313 points.
Teams in the top 50% contribute 156 points.
Teams in the lower 50% contribute 78 points.
The value of the top ranking teams in the flight are then averaged to generate the flight's final value or pool. The winners will be awarded points from this pool, minus 20% of their current national points total. This deduction will be higher for teams with more points and lower for teams with less points, in order to balance the awards given even if the competition was not balanced, and reward teams who go up against stronger competition and win.

The flight Champion will win a point reward based on the total pool of points available. The finalist will be rewarded a value based on one-half of the total. If applicable, the semi-finalists will receive one-quarter, and the quarter-finalists will receive one-eighth.

I often wonder about that myself. How can they have scores of matches updated fast but it takes weeks for the championship rounds to update. If the values are already set...it should be automatic! Makes you wonder if they are making it up as they go!

Got Soccer point system Empty Re: Got Soccer point system

Post by IC75 5/16/2011, 9:43 am

I appreciate the help but what I am trying to figure out are the points awarded by Got Soccer for the top 3 places for U16 Division 1.

In looking at the points I saw the following:
Solar Red, flight value 3750
20% of 14,448, 2890
max poins available 860
points awarded, 860.
finished 1st

Solar, flight value 3750
20% of 5432, 1086
max points available 2664
points awarded, 1998
finished 2nd

FC Dallas, flight value 3750
20% of 7616, 1523
max points available, 2227
points awarded, 1114
finished 3rd

All teams in division 1 play each other so I don't know how the points are different. I always thought if you win a league championship you should receive more of whatever is being awarded...in this case Got Soccer points.

What am I missing?

Did you get the gotsoccer points figured out? Looks like the '96's have theirs done. Solar-5145 for winning Classic league. Andro-4821 2nd. FCD 2789 for 3rd.

Got Soccer point system Empty Re: Got Soccer point system

Nope, not yet! I have checked the other age groups of division 1 and the 1st place team always receives more gotsoccer points than the 2nd, 3rd, etc. place teams.

Just can't figure out how in U16 division 1 the 2nd and 3rd place teams receive more points than the 1st place team. In this case the 2nd place team Solar received more than double the points than the 1st place team Solar Red.

Anybody out there know why and how?

I have had some success using the help or support button in gotsoccer. It logs an issue in a defect tracking system and they seem to be pretty good about addressing it. I submitted one about points assigned, or wrong age group, or something, about another team, and they corrected the issue.

See if you can find the support button (must be logged in).

Because the 1st place team already had far more ranking points, and Gotsport limits how many points a team can get based on how many points they already have? I don't know the point in time they set the value for classic and the point in time they take already earned points into consideration, but it seems that may be the case.

I wish you were correct so I can go back to work, however Solar Red has 4,973 gotsoccer state points and finished 1st u16 division 1. Solar has 11,924 gotsoccer state points and finished 2nd.

SR got 860 points for 1st and Solar received 1998 for finishing 2nd.

That is my dilemma.

That is my dilemma.

You are looking at the current state ranking points. They roll off over time (I think they only report points within the last 12 months in the current rankings). I am guessing that at the time the flight values for ccsai were set, SR had far more than 4973 points, but some big ones fell off the reporting recently.

In fact, your post above is what gave me this idea, where you said:

Solar Red, flight value 3750
20% of 14,448, 2890
max poins available 860
points awarded, 860.
finished 1st

Solar, flight value 3750
20% of 5432, 1086
max points available 2664
points awarded, 1998
finished 2nd

At the time they calculated this pool, SR had 14,448, which is way more than what is reported now, so I am assuming they won some other big tournaments that were still within 12 months at the time the pool was calculated, but are now older than 12 months.

Scratch that--looking at one of my sons teams it seems like they carry 24 months worth of rolling points in the current total. Based on timing, I'll bet that in 09 SR did real well in State Cup, maybe NAMDC as well, beating some higher ranked teams for some extra bonus points. All those points were on when they calculated the ccsai pool since it closes before them, but now those points have since fallen off because they are now more than 24 months old.
