D3
Sporting 3-1 ETU
IMO, one or both of these teams end uP promoted. ETU can play with Sporting, just didn't do enough with the chances they had today. Both teams play a nice combo of possession style, deliberate ball movement, and looking for opportunities in the front. I was watching 4 other d3 teams in the vicinity, and these 2 teams are a cut above. D3 very competitive this year.
D2 Hurst 4-1 TIgres
HUFC were ready and got up early. Tigres earned 5 or 6 yellow cards, including their coach. Tigers are a good team with strong defense. Had their chances, could not convert, never gave up. D2 terribly competitive top to bottom. Will be a dog fight every week.

TFC 3 Kernow 0
TFC dominated first half and most of second half, seems like Storm still trying to play the long ball to connect with the kid the coach tries to overwork, just my .02 great showing by TFC though...

D2 Wizards FC vs FC Dallas
Tough fought match, and well played by both sides, especially in the first half. Wizards clearly dominated the 2nd half with more chances up front, just couldn't capitalize. FC Dallas tried to counterattack but couldn't pass the midfield because of the opposing teams' pressing up front. In the end Wizards took a 3-2 victory..

My mIstake-- I've been told coaches don't get cards, so it must have been a player.

WHATS THIS
Please show your kids how to tackle, a ball, not the person! Lets keep the safety of your kids first. Or how they say it on the field "Play on"......

Re: 00 Classic League Week 1 Scores
7 cards in Solar v. Wizards
6 cards in Hurst v. Tigres
And both appear to be very one sided on which team was getting all the cards. What's the deal? Bad coaching, too much testosterone, crazy parents? Or is that just simply how things progress? I hope not! I didn't see this many cards in the last Stoke v. New Castle game. Geez.
I saw a tough, physical, hard fought match yesterday with NO cards for either team.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Kids at a young age believe they can abuse the ref and question everything. It needs to stop - the refs might not always make the correct call but they are right more often then the kid abusing them.
I am not sure they even understand circumstances of their behavior: Staight red is automatic 1 game sitout, many times more than 1 game. 3 yellows (cumulative for the entire year) is a mandatory sitout. After the 5th yellow they get a 2nd game and above that they get called onto the A&D carpet. Suspensions at that point are common - sometimes long ones. If a team hits a threshold (I think it is 24 yellows for the season) they go in front of A&D and team punishments can be given.
If coaches aren't doing it then parents need to remind these kids about what is coming if they keep up this behavior. At U13 this is starting much too early...you are paying too much money to watch your kid sit.

Cards don't just happen for physical play. They can be an indication of the need for a card, but not always.
There are 7 caution-able offenses:
1. Unsporting behavior (this is generally a catch-all for reckless fouls and tactical offences)
2. Dissent
3. Persistent Infringement of the laws of the game
4. Delays the restart of play. Kicking the ball away is a frequent occurrence here.
5. Fails to respect the distance when play is restarted with a corner kick, free kick or throw-in. This one isn't enforced enough IMO. When a free-kick is awarded and a kid from the other team runs up and stands in-front of the ball to slow down the team making the kick, they are guilty of this.
6. Enters or re-enters the field of play without the referee's permission
7. Deliberately leaves the field of play without the referee's permission
These are all on FIFA's web-site.

4 & 5 are not as rare as you think. 6&7 are though. I think I've only seen 1 of those in all my years of officiating.

I understand. I just got the impression from others that these were fouls from overly physical play. I see lots of that and lots of "Dissent". Both of which are really unfortunate sites at this age. And if any coach is high fiving players for a red card then CL A&D should have him up in front of them immediately unless it was an accidental foul that denied a goal scoring opportunity. Anything else should be punished by the coach, not celebrated. And I hear parents on the sidelines encouraging fouls and foul play. It's ridiculous. These parents should be banned but no way to enforce it. I heard it in the PLD. I am sure I'll hear it again in league play.

Re: 00 Classic League Week 1 Scores
Well, to answer your question - no it's not normal and those things usually fix themselves sooner or later. Usually, much sooner. Accumulated cards lead to deductions in points and standings and can and does effect standings and who stays in CL. Not only that, but teams can be put before an A&D committee for hearings.
Physical play is fine. Overly physical isn't and often isn't soccer. The better teams don't need physicality to score goals and dominate. They have better first touch, vision and speed on and off the ball.

Re: 00 Classic League Week 1 Scores
Soccerman 771 and others...who actually saw the game and know what the cards were issued for? Your assertions/assumptions that there was overly physical play only leads to other parents with less information assuming that a team is too physical = dirty. Your comment about better teams not needing physical play?... You might want to check out the Wizards size...lots of little speedy guys. As far as physical play, wait until your BB is 15+ YO, football is very physical...check out the BPL or La Liga every weekend...until then, post fact/what you actually know or have seen, not speculation....soccerman771 wrote:Well, to answer your question - no it's not normal and those things usually fix themselves sooner or later.
