Re: 00 Classic League Week 1 Scores
Soccerman 771 and others...who actually saw the game and know what the cards were issued for? Your assertions/assumptions that there was overly physical play only leads to other parents with less information assuming that a team is too physical = dirty. Your comment about better teams not needing physical play?... You might want to check out the Wizards size...lots of little speedy guys. As far as physical play, wait until your BB is 15+ YO, football is very physical...check out the BPL or La Liga every weekend...until then, post fact/what you actually know or have seen, not speculation....soccerman771 wrote:Well, to answer your question - no it's not normal and those things usually fix themselves sooner or later. Usually, much sooner. Accumulated cards lead to deductions in points and standings and can and does effect standings and who stays in CL. Not only that, but teams can be put before an A&D committee for hearings.
Physical play is fine. Overly physical isn't and often isn't soccer. The better teams don't need physicality to score goals and dominate. They have better first touch, vision and speed on and off the ball.

i saw part of the wizards game. i think it was equally dirty play and dissent. it was mainly fueled by wizard parents arguing every call.

Saw same game...all of it, not sure you were there based upon your comment...If the CR is punishing the team due to loud parents, they need to go back to grade 9 and the small fields...and the parents only a few of the parents were fired up due to the lack of control of the CR...soccerpapa wrote:i saw part of the wizards game. i think it was equally dirty play and dissent. it was mainly fueled by wizard parents arguing every call.

One of the Wizard parents said it best: "I am embarrassed of the behavior of the players, the coach and the parents of our team."Ibra wrote:Saw same game...all of it, not sure you were there based upon your comment...If the CR is punishing the team due to loud parents, they need to go back to grade 9 and the small fields...and the parents only a few of the parents were fired up due to the lack of control of the CR...soccerpapa wrote:i saw part of the wizards game. i think it was equally dirty play and dissent. it was mainly fueled by wizard parents arguing every call.

I've heard from a few people that the leagues were going to be much more aggressive about sending off parents and taking out punishment on the clubs/teams for parent behavior. Just keep being loud and see how that helps your team.
It wasn't parents of young kids who were telling me about this rule, but the parents of the U17 and U19 players from top teams. Went to a couple of their games (for teams where the coaches had actually explained this new policy to the parents), parents were as quiet as could be during the games - was really nice. Take a look at the rules (pgs 22-25): http://www.ccsai.org/documents/Classic_League_Rules_july_23_2012.pdf

No the ref was not punishing the players for the parents. What happens is that there is a natural effect for players to play dirty and argue calls in the field, if their parents are doing the same from the sideline. When this behavior is encouraged from the sideline, the kids are more likely to act this way.
There is a difference between being loud, and being disrespectful & obscene. You would be surprised at the things that are said in Spanish and you could not get away with saying it in English.
Also shame on the coach for not controlling this. In most teams i have seen, if you get a yellow, you were substituted out. But i guess in this case, he would have ran out of players.

OF course all this is merely speculation. Only the ref knows why those cards were given out. The players should have the right to question a call but in a respectful way, that being said the ref has to make sure he is being respectful to the players. It takes two to tango. Another common thing is the fact that refs do not control these games and let things escalate. Not an easy job I'm sure but many refs I have seen over the years in Classic have thin skin and cannot tolerate not the slightest questioning of their calls. These same refs talk down to parents and therefore add fuel to the fire. Parents get upset when they see so many errors by the refs and rightfully so. All we ever hear from the league is that "our refs are certified". I know alot of people with a piece of paper that says they are educated or certified but are dumb as a post. Riquelme Out!

I don't think it is speculation when one watched the game and knows the rules. There may be differences of opinion, but the cards on both sides looked valid to me.
