Challenge Tournament
Haven't seen any chatter about the upcoming challenge tournament for Classic. Thoughts? Anyone know where you can find the list of teams that have entered?

Registration ends May 9. I'm sure most team enter only this week.

Is there a link you could share for the other age groups?SoccerXXX wrote:This is what I dug up today.

Re: Challenge Tournament
Sorry. Forgot to post. http://www.gotsport.com/events/teamlist.asp?eventid=38548&showall=true
If you put in the event ID for a tournament they sometimes allow you to display the applied teams though it is not usually published. (pulled applied team list off of a prior tournament and put in currrent EventID)
Hope this helps.

Re: Challenge Tournament
I know this is very hypothetical but what happens if only 6 teams sign up for the challenge tournament in an age group? Or 8 teams. Do they still have the tournament or just cancel it and give the money back?

Re: Challenge Tournament
I think it would be a cold day in hell when money was given back. If only a limited number of teams applied I bet they would qualify those teams and roll them into the Memorial Day tournament numbers.

Re: Challenge Tournament
I wasn't serious about receiving money back. I know that is not happening. The only age group I can see it happening is for the U19 (currently U17). Last year they had only 10 teams and 8 qualified. A lot of teams don't come back after U17 just to play half a season. As of right now they have 4 teams registered but 8 spots. how would they fill up the remaining 4 spots?SoccerXXX wrote:I think it would be a cold day in hell when money was given back. Re: Challenge Tournament
Sorry. I was trying to be a bit funny and it didn't come through. Though I expect the slots to fill up quickly if for some reason they did not then I would expect that they would start handing out invitations to join CL without going through a tournament. Perhaps they would offer to clubs of teams that were there the prior year.
Behind the humor that we all can shoot at it it really is a good question.

Re: Challenge Tournament
Looking at the Dallas Cup qualifier it seems that it might be very easy in some age groups to qualify for next years DC, but I am sure plenty of teams will apply in the next 3 days.

Re: Challenge Tournament
Just take the tournament number (Hover over the registration link) and put into the link above. Doing that I now can display the KSMDT. NOTE: Not all tournaments have this functionality turned on to be able to see applied teams.

Re: Challenge Tournament
I suspect that you will. It seems as though most teams don't want to register until the last possible moment. Not sure why though.

Re: Challenge Tournament
Looks like a final tally of 27 teams. Last year if memory serves they had 6 flights (22 teams I believe) and the winners of each flight got a slot. 2nds played the next weekend for the final 2. If I am not correct please say.
With 27 how do you think the format will be? I am thinking that they do 3 flights of 5, 3 flights of 4. Play within group and top team is in. 2nds the next weekend. Thoughts?

Re: Challenge Tournament
Could do 8 brackets (5 groups of 3 and 3 groups of 4) with the top 2 from each (total of 16) moving into the second weekend.

Re: Challenge Tournament
The 02s had 27 teams last year.
They did four groups of 4, two groups of 3, and one group of 5 (4 4 4 4 3 3 5) in the first round. (The two groups of 3 had 3 games including one cross-over game in the other 3 team bracket, the group of 5 played 4 games each, and all the 4 team groups played 3 games).
The top two teams from each bracket went through to the 2nd round (14 teams total).
In the 2nd round they did two groups of 4, and two groups of 3. The top two teams in each bracket of round 2 made it in. (Again, cross-over games with the two 3 team brackets).
So nobody "qualified in" until the end of round 2, but 13 were eliminated in round 1.

Re: Challenge Tournament
R1 - I would imagine that they don't deviate from history too much and would follow what they did with the 02s last year. Good way to determine the 8 CL teams.
