How to keep the club together and more players
I am looking to keep together a core of 2 clubs, I have a few 2010 babies and 2009 babies. I have some flyers, I do some social networking, but anyone have ideas as to where I can leave my information for possible call backs. Currently coaching with the Wizards, I'm a Dad who enjoys the game. I have experience coaching rec soccer with my license, just looking for help and ideas if possible, thanks in advance.

The elementary schools your core group attends. Have those babies invite their friends out to play. At this age their are naturals that still have not picked up a soccer ball and with decent coaching will be the best players in their age group 2-3 years from nowSoccerSouthSir wrote:I am looking to keep together a core of 2 clubs, I have a few 2010 babies and 2009 babies. Play a season of basketball together like YMCA Summer Basketball. This way you are doing a different activity together and you can teach concepts such as spacing and passing. But keep it recreational and fun. If done correctly families will want to stick together.

Wow... That is really, really good advice. I wish I'd though of that when I had younger teams.Gameday 04 wrote:Play a season of basketball together like YMCA Summer Basketball. Re: How to keep the club together and more players
My son's rec team has been together since kindergarten...they are now in 4th grade. The players have become his best friends and the parents are our friends too. It does sometimes get complicated because some kids (mine included) become part of a more "serious" team and the rec team sometimes takes the backburner. Now with the age pure change, his rec team wouldn't be able to stay together beyond the rec world because it is a mix of 06s and 07s. My daughter is an 09 and only plays rec. She is dealing with the same thing, as her team is a mix of school friends that are 08s and 09s. Fortunately she is good enough (for now) to play up. I don't know what the future will hold with that team b/c we do have players playing up that should not be.

All good, solid advice. I thank you all for your thoughts and guidance. I think I will do a little of what I can based off your suggestions and see where that leads us.

Having a creative outlet (outside of just soccer) is personally very important to me --> especially when the kids are so young. I think soccer burn-out is very prevalent, but that's just my opinion. Basketball offers many of the same principles as soccer ... the ball moves faster than the player, movement without the ball, team defensive shape, etc.... My Dad stepped up and coached some of my youth soccer teams in Rec - we were always one of the best, if not the best team in the league .... he admitted that he initially knew NOTHING about Soccer ... he just Coached it like he would Coach basketball LOL!

burn out is a relative term. as long as the BB is competitive it is unlikely he will "burn out". once the required work to stay competitive, exceeds childs abilities or passion, reality sets in.

most of the posters on here would just say that 99% are just living thru their children anyway instead of seeing the realitysoccerdadrandy wrote:Arsenal1984 wrote:bigtex75081 wrote:Wow... What do you mean by seeing the reality and who are you saying is living thru their children? I am not understanding this, in regards to trying to keep a core group together.. please help me understand your point of view......as for burn out again coaching wise I am new, however I asked the kids and parents they want to continue to play and grow. I got an overwhelming yes...thanks for the ideas, they are great. The basketball seems spot on. Ive called the ymca and we are working on that....

Re: How to keep the club together and more players
randy hit it on the head, the base has to begin from the same elementary school. I took a group of 7 from PK3-4 to Academy for a year, won a SuperCopa then to Classic League qualification and got in. I kept us rec until a year and a half ago. The kids and parents have to know and like each other and be a big support group. Also, soccer practice shouldn't be a haul. All of my kids are 5 minutes from each other with the exception of a few key adds we had to make to help elevate us to the next level. These teams with many hired guns scattered about NTX who chase trophies are always a few losses away from complete disintegration. I'm witnessing it now with a few teams in D1 and D2 and it causes me to chuckle. In a nutshell, keep it community based, build slowly, develop your players and just be patient.
