LOLZ. This is both an oxymoron and a fantasy. Thinking that Classic League has a crew that it would consider "best" is the oxymoron. Thinking that they'd put them on a U11 match is a fantasy.

Twotone, kudos to classic league because the refs in the fcd - Lp Owen game were fantastic in my opinion.

Week 1 prediction results:

***I'm hoping there are some that didn't have an opportunity to get there picks in week 1 but would like to play moving forward.  To level the playing field, we'll drop the lowest weekly score of the fall season.  I think that's fair for everyone...

Week 1 scores:
Socceropath       28
Socceroo            27
Baller07             25
TayJ6                23
Cruiser              22
Takinumbers      22
DragonStryker    21
NoSurpriseHere  21

Shout outs to the following picks that were spot on:
TayJ6                   FCD Academy v Tigres 9-0
Socceropath         TXN Red v Fever  3-1
Socceroo              LP St John v Celtic  0-2
Baller07               Allegiance v ETX Wildcatters 2-3

Pick of the week goes to Baller07, nailing the upset!

Can anyone comment on the Allegiance / Wildcatters game? I'm a little surprised by this as it seemed Allegiance had been on quite a roll over last 3 months w/ lots of good results. Admittedly, not terribly familiar w/ Wildcatters - so maybe not a surprise at all...just curious as most of the other games this weekend held to form

Baller07 nailed that game. He/She must have some inside info here....   :-)
I think we are all a little surprised given how well Allegiance has been playing.

With the exception of the FCD Academy game all other scores were a lot closer than everyone was predicting. Any thoughts on this? Are the teams a lot closer than originally thought?

I just believe that teams have had even more time now (nearly 2 months since 07/01 signing day) to build chemistry, and the coaches have a much better understanding of their players.. All of this tends to lend itself to stronger performances, and better games as the season progresses.
That said, I'm gonna wait to see how each group performs in the Labor Day tournaments before I submit my week 2 scores...

I'm wondering how much better the games would be if teams didn't have to carry over 13 kids. seems that if you are paying all that money, all kids are going to show up to every game. coaches probably have to play all the kids which hodor them to switch out ones that should stay in. if it is strictly financial for these clubs, don't you think that parents will pay a bit more for their kids to play more? not even sure how some kids get into the flow of a game after being yanked a few minutes into the game.

I know for a fact that 3 of the D1 teams this last weekend had players on the bench that never played a min this last weekend...I only know parents from these 3 teams. So I cant imagine this wasn't the same with other teams...Specially on close games, 1st week of the season....

I cant imagine that this makes those parents very happy. I know there are some parents who want to tell everyone that their kid play classic d1, but isn't the point to take what you learn in practice and put it on the field? they should either lengthen games (5 add. minutes to each half), or adjust signing period away from classic qualifying.

Was under the impression with Select Soccer that you are not guaranteed playing time...Pay to play is a farce...and it is the biggest problem in youth sports.

If my son is not performing well, for whatever reason, I have no problem with the coach benching him for a game. But it is only a good lesson if the coach explains to the kid why he was benched in the first place and what can he do to improve and then the coach needs to address these deficiencies in practice so that the kid can improve and develop.

If the coach took a player simply for the additional $3k to $4k and is not spending time with the player that needs more help, than this is a problem.

I think the problem is that the clubs require the coaches to have certain number of players. this usually means that there might be a couple of players that have no business playing select in the first place. It puts the coaches in a tough position. the whole point of this whole thing is to get better and learn to fight for playing time. I'm with you on having my kid benched if he deserves it. the problem is losing playing time because of club required numbers. it would be an additional $250 bucks to have a couple less kids and an opportunity for more playing time.

Not sure what was different this year...the '06s had a significant number of Classic teams playing in a Sunday league as well (Primetime or PIT). I know our team looked at doing it this year but not enough quality teams signed up. Would have been a good chance to get bench players more playing time, everybody wins.

According to a parent, Allegiance was up 2-0 until the last 5 minutes. Apparently their were missing a few players and their coach never showed up. Excuses???

Up 2-0, with 5 minutes left, loses 3-2 as predicted. #Defense.

The Rebels vs Texans game was the real deal. Rebels looked different, some of the QT players were not there....
I'm not instigating!!!

Playing in secondary leagues to further development and not just pad stats would require a coach that actually believes in development. Clearly you don't actually have a son that plays soccer in NTX because if you did, you would know that NO coaches in NTX believe in development.

Well maybe there are a few. Sounds like you might be one of the lucky ones.

Since I've already started BBs college application, I wanted some extra games to pad stats. I'm off to a strong start, his extra-curriculars are Futsal, hacky sack, and fidget spinning.

I'm not sure he's focused enough though...this weekend he was kicking the ball against the wall so I sent him inside, then I caught him watching some Pulisic highlights but I had to turn it off, don't want him developing any bad habits.

I put on MLS videos and emphasize the long ball and the habit of kicking it anywhere out of the back.

My oldest bb just started playing college ball this year. I will tell you that it is astonishing the number of players at the top of D1 that can't play a lick of soccer. And to believe these kids are coming out of the DA system is incredible.

I'm telling you it's a lot of kicking the ball long to a fast kid up top. Once you get outside the top 5 D1 programs, the quality of soccer drops quickly.

FCD Youth - FCD West 2-2
Fever - Elite 1-4
ETX Wildcatters - Rebels 1-6

Tigres - TXN Red 0-7

After seeing some disappointing results this past weekend which is becoming a trend for some: here are my guesses.
LP St John - FCD Academy        0-99 I bet the ball doesn't even cross midfield for St John while attacking
FCD Blue - LP Owen                 2-2
Celtic - Solar Kennington          2-1
FCD Youth - FCD West              2-1
Fever  -  Elite                           0-4
ETX Wildcatters  - Rebels          1-6
Ayses  - TXN South                  2-1
Solar McKinney  -  TXN Dallas   3-3
Tigres  -  TXN Red                    1-4
FCD ETX  -  Allegiance              2-3

I also think the game of week is the Solar/ Texans one
