Coppell is off to a solid start with a new coach. District play starts tonight at home vs Saginaw.

I totally agree
The funny thing about HS soccer is that since the crowds are not football or basketball size, it seems that school adminstators and security that are at these games try to temper the fans, shall I say enthusiasm. I have been to several games where fans were told to calm down after shouting "ole" after each pass. I mean there is usaully no more than 50 fans(total for both teams), so let them have some fun. This is not golf or tennis. If they let the kids have fun maybe more will come out and see the games.

Wow. I would like to see a liitle of that. Most I have been to have very loud parents that have absolutely no knowledge of the game and are quite willing to let everyone within a quarter mile no that every call against them is wrong. They usually then move on to sharing their opinion of the refs. Love the rare occassion that they are told to shut up or leave. Love the loud student enthusiasm though. Had a vasuvula (sp) at a recent game. A few people near it wanted to do some nasty things involving it and the owner but I thought it was a great fun for the students that came out.

The past 2 games I have been sitting by those loud no knowledge parents, but they tend to simmer down when 20-30 crazy kids are cheering the home team, mostly it is the JV or girlfriends. Then here comes the admin or security making the kids settledown. It is funny how those loud parents always seem to be focused on the negatives. The ref is awful, your team is too physical, kick his butt little Johnny or something to that nature and you are correct because they do it from whistle to whistle. The rarity for some reason is cheering for your team and not berate the refs and the other team's players. Those parents seem to be more reserved and cheer sporadically for all the good the happens. The last girls game the varsity boys brought out the vuvusalas and drums but were quickly told to stop. Next game they are planning body paint.

We have not started district yet out our way but so far the reffing for tournaments and pre-season games has been much better than the previous two years. Lucky? Is this being seen elsewhere?

Hit and miss, but overall I would say HS reffing so far has been better than Classic League reffing. At least HS refs seem to call a more consistent game. That's not saying much because Classis League reffing has really deteriorated the in the last 2 seasons (JMHO of course).
The thing I don't like about HS reffing is that they too often employ the SDL-style 2-ref system for tournament games and non-district games, especially for JV.

Interesting comment since most of us do both CL and HS.off_the_woodwork wrote:my2cents wrote:We have not started district yet out our way but so far the reffing for tournaments and pre-season games has been much better than the previous two years. Lucky? Is this being seen elsewhere?

I also think it is hit or miss. I think the reason is the level of play among the players. There seems to be a mix of CL, rec and football players. It seems to give the refs a tough time being consistent when the play is so inconsistent. The 2 ref system, I have seem once in a varsity game and the speed of play was just to fast for the refs to keep up. The mix of long ball and DBs playing forwards and wings makes the HS very fast.

Didn't mean to insinuate that there are no good refs in CL - there are plenty (in fact well over 50%. There just seem to be a lot more that don't belong there, or at least not centering. For instance my U12 had a ref last weekend that didn't make any effort to stay near the play, instead just hovering near the midfield and called the game like it was at Sole Roll. He missed a lot of calls, but to his credit at least he missed them equally. I don't think his linesman were too impressed either form their body language. Just one example of something I didn't see much when my oldest was that age. To CL's credit I do see more evaluations going on but there is still a lot of weeding out to do. Or maybe I am suffering from good ol' days syndrome...

Here are the standings as of today.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/high-schools/boys-soccer-news/#stats
M2C, your district is out of date on its' standings.
In 5A, District 8-5A is very competitive and still up for grabs. The winner of this district will be battle tested and a worthy opponent in the HS playoffs. Coppell is doing well at the midway point in 8-5A. Mansfield looks good, as well and McKinney Boyd.

Back in the day… it was TJ, WT White, BA, and Kimball! The suburbs were just a dream in the eyes of real estate developers.
My boys back in Pleasant Grove, ahem, PG, couldn't carry the water bottles for you boys.

Mansfield and Midlothian have looked very good in 5-5A. They could possibly give some north suburb teams a real challenge come playoff time.

Re: 2012 HS WARM-UP
Yesterday's Dallas Morning News had this week's Boys Area Rankings as follows:
1. Coppell
2. Jesuit
3. Plano
4. Flower Mound
5. McKinney Boyd
6. Richardson Berkner
7. Richland
8. Flower Mound Marcus
9. Keller
10. Allen
I think they are spot on when you consider strength of schedule.
