Will be interesting to see how Solar '98 stacks up with the Cali teams at the Legends FC tournament in January

Re: 98 Not a Bad Showing for the Local Teams
I'd think they'd do very well against any U12 team.
FYI - don't give much credence to the rankings - one of our parents was a 'ranker' and, surprisingly, we were the top team regardless of how we did (we weren't as dominant as Solar '98). He said if the teams from Cal and Tex were close - he'd give the nod to California (not much reasoning, that's just what his thought process was).

Re: 98 Not a Bad Showing for the Local Teams
You're right. The various rankings at this age are all over the board. The schedules for the FC Legends tourney came out today and Solar got a decent draw. Biggest obstacle in the first round will be West Coast FC. If they advance then they'll face the big guns: Mustangs FC Barcelona, Santa Barbara White, Legends FC, and San Diego Surf Academy. Should be interesting...

That rankings list of teams seems outdated.
Shouldn't they at least somehow coincide with our (98B) CL standings?

Re: 98 Not a Bad Showing for the Local Teams
I don't know about the out-of-state teams on that list but that has to be the all-time WORST local rankings I have ever seen. They nailed the top area team but everything else sucks!
You'd have better luck checking out the ratings on this site.
Happy New Year!

That site is a joke. They have teams in the 97 bracket that don't exist anymore.

Congrats to the Solar 98 boys for winning the Legends FC championship. Looks like they had a great tournament.

California Tournament
Those California teams are stout. Lots and lots of speed at every position. The Legends team came out very strong in the semi round and the Solar boys looked like they'd been hit by a bus. Many pie-eyed "what the heck is going on...." faces. But the Solar boys got it together and won 3-1. The championship against San Diego Surf was played on turf in the rain and Solar won 4-0. Wonderful experience/memories. None of the teams had an answer for the '99 Solar player, even when they triple-teamed him.

Check out what California thinks of the Solar '98 team..
And, yes, we will be watching him on tv, probably sooner rather than later.

Congrats to Solar, they really impressed those west coast folks. They are much nicer on that board than we are here.

It is my understanding that Solar Red 98's won the tourney in Arizona and Dallas Texans 98 won the tourney in Las Vegas.

Wow
What an amazing weekend for the local '98 lads. Three tournament wins at three different venues. Congratulations to the Solar Red and Texan teams. Should make for a fun spring season in our humble classic league play. Talk about a soccer hotbed....

California Soccer Website
If you want to learn what the California faithful think of Texas soccer check this out. And to think they don't even know that Solar Red and the Texans also won their respective '98 road tournaments over the weekend...

Re: 98 Not a Bad Showing for the Local Teams
Irish, the last 98 game I can remember this team losing was to FC Dallas (now TFC)...and I think that was back in SDL, the season right before classic. Is that right?
To be honest, that's the only 98 game I can remember this team ever losing. They proably had an 80 game win streak prior to that.

Re: 98 Not a Bad Showing for the Local Teams
The whole country has a lot of respect for NTX soccer. Our top teams, girls and boys, can beat anyone, anywhere, anytime. No better place to be than DFW! Solar 98 may have been good in the past, but their new player made them #1 in the US.

Re: 98 Not a Bad Showing for the Local Teams
great team and an unbelievably good player, but I would hold off on that praise of NTX soccer. It's just as bad as it always was. Yes NTX teams can beat any team in the US and have no doubt that solar 98 could beat any group of 12yr olds in Brazil. Unfortunately that doesn't translate long term.

North Texas Soccer
I don't understand your comment. Are you saying North Texas soccer is "bad"? If teams are solid now how would that not translate long term? I know there are many local players on solid D-1 college rosters, both men and women. And Kenny Cooper and Corben Bone come to mind if you're referring to the professional ranks. I must be missing something. Please explain. And to previous post, yes, the new addition is a very special player. Even better, he's an exceptionally nice, humble, kid.

why did they lose that one game to FCD? Time to replace the coach.FSFFL wrote:Irish, the last 98 game I can remember this team losing was to FC Dallas (now TFC)...and I think that was back in SDL, the season right before classic. Is that right?
