HS coach - pregnant player issue

It is not the country as a whole. I work in the school system and this is a case of the squeaky wheel getting the attention as the other wheels are also falling off. I have been in schools where girls get pregnant and gracefully drops sports altogether and others come back after birth. It is just a small segment of school age girls. An average 5A HS has about 2000 students and in the worst years you will have 20 pregnant students that is 1% of the total school. Of those 20 it will only effect 3-4 female athletes. In no way do I minimize teen pregnancy but unless the parent(s) want the attention and/or compensation, the problem is usually swept under the table.

20 is 1% of 2000. I cannot count the males students as part of the 20 because that hard earned B in biology told me so. But they part of the 2000, they are part of the school. The pot of males could get larger, the student in question boyfriend did not even attend her school.

Whoa, wait, what. Figo got Pam Anderson pregnant and now Josema won't let her play? And 20% of congress thinks it shouldn't be covered by healthcare?

The doctor's note is the main issue. The coach wanted a doctor's note to clear her to play. The sex discrimination lawsuit is based on this request because she is pregnant and the request cannot be a gender specific request. Since males cannot get pregnant to my knowledge, the coaches request violates federal law. I feel the parents are nut jobs because what self respecting parent would want it nationally known that their teenage daughter was not only pregnant but also suing the school dristrict for showing concern for their daughter.

This is bogus and maybe federal law should be changed. Sexual discrimination is so broadly defined- it should be altered. So can my husband sue stores that have the parking spaces for expectant moms. It's discriminating against him when he is circling a full parking lot for the 10th time and the space is empty by the door. Asking for a doctors note is not discriminating against her constitutional right as a female not when pregnancy is gender specific. Pregnancy is a medical condition and schools are allowed to ask for a doctors note for the safety of the student athelete.

The problem with todays society is the lake of accountablity. If I were her parent I would make her accountable for her actions not parade her in front of the media for all the world to see what a screwed up, irresponsible teenager she is and what irresponsible, dillusional, and psychotic parents they are. No she can't play, what scholorship chances, if anything this hurts that more than lack of court time. Who is going to give a scholorship to a female volleyball player with her belly sticking out. People are so quick to sue for any reason even when it was caused by their own stupidity.
Suing the coach that cared enough about your physical well being is stupid and maybe social services should be looking into the her parents and what kind of a enviroment this child is going to be born into.

sillymom, I agree with you 100% but some people are just smart enough to be dangerous. Their is a loophole in the Title IX statue and this parent found it. It lind of letting girls play football with the boys because schools do not have girls football teams. It is a different issue but it all falls under gender discrimination.
