Congrats to Marcus - Marcus Cup Champions

Congrats to the Marauders on winning the Marcus Cup this weekend. The final against District-rival Lewisville was spirited, and is a sign that District 5-5A may be the deepest, most talented for soccer in all the state. Marcus and Coppell are #1 and #2 in the state, and both are in the top 5 in the US. Marcus is a sterling 8-0-0, the only North Texas 5A team without a loss or a tie. Coppell's lone loss was to the #1 team in the US (Montverde, 1-0 defeat). Hebron and Flower Mound are both currently undefeated, and Lewisville will make waves this year. One very good team is going to miss out on the playoffs, which is a shame.

Lewisville lacks size overall, but they have an incredibly high work rate and tremendous speed and made Marcus earn the victory. Marcus scored first with 22 minutes left, but Lewisville tied it up just six minutes later. It looked like the game could go to PKs, but Marcus scored the go-ahead goal just 30 seconds after Lewisville's equalizer to go up 2-1. They added a PK a few minutes later that broke Lewisville's spirit. This is the first time since the inception of the Marcus Cup that Marcus has won both the Jesuit Meintser tournament as well as their own in the same year.

Looking forward to District play beginning in a couple of weeks. 5-5A is going to be a bloodbath each and every game.
