At kickoff, both teams have fans chanting loudly. Angeles scores 30 seconds into the match! Game in progress.

The stage is set for the matches today at Richland College.
One California team among the remaining 8. One from Mexico, Florida, Utah, Chicago, and Oklahoma. Two local teams. None from South Texas survived the cut.
Some notable teams didn't make it; FC Golden State from California. Chicago Magic from Illinois.
4:00 PM TSC HURRICANE CARRENO (OK) vs. TEXAS LIGHTNING (TXN), Field #04
4:00 PM ANGELES SOCCER ELITE U13 (MEX) vs. FC DALLAS U13 ACADEMY - NPL (TXN), Field #03
6:00 PM CHICAGO FIRE ACADEMY 2001 (IL) vs. CHIVAS USA ACADEMY (CAS), Field #01
6:00 PM SPARTA UNITED SC PREMIER (UT) vs. TAMPA BAY UNITED PREMIER 00 (FL), Field #09
Texas Lightning has been playing solidly. A blend of physical and possession soccer, not unlike the typical game you see them play in Classic. It's worked well for them in the Dallas Cup.
FC Dallas finally got their rhythm going, showing their best match of the tournament. As they finally sped up their speed of play, the type of possession game they can do best. FC Bravo was never in the match as they couldn't take the ball away from FCD. Without a second goalkeeper on the roster, FCD had their central defender mind the net. He never had a serious challenge during the match as he mostly used his feet during the game.
Sporting United had a tale of two halves. Going down 0-2, they had to claw back to tie their match with Cedar Stars Academy from New Jersey. They finish with a very respectable 1-1-1 record in the group with Chivas USA Academy. The Sporting United boys can hold their heads high. They represented North Texas with class.
The Wizards could never really get their offense going, scoring one goal in each of their three group matches. The long-ball style of play they display in Classic League wasn't going to break the defenses of teams with top-notch defenders. Nevertheless, they had a decent record of 0-2-1 to finish third in their bracket. A bracket that included Angeles and Golden State.
The other U13 (albeit PA) team that was not mentioned above was the Dallas Texans. They played U14 and their performance was uneventful...finished last in their group with 1 tie and 2 losses. Maybe next time they should ask the opponents to wear FC Dallas jerseys . Also, there was no TXN team that advanced to the quarters in this age group even with the use of guest players so maybe the competition was very strong.
re: guest players...I was surprised to see the number of guest players that local teams are/were using for this competition. I think the rules allow 5. It can sometimes change the essence of a team....to each...
the texans u13 pre academy played the Guatemala team to a 1-0 loss and tough Cali team to 1-1 tie. Guatemala beat winner of other bracket 4-0 in quarter finals lol. it was "EVENTFUL" I WAS THERE
"Our performance was uneventful [sic]" per Hassan about the U13 elimination....after the "EVENTFUL" performance you witnessed
and U14 Guatemala, the team u13 Texans pre academy boys player for a tough 1 nil loss advance to play wizards tomorrow. GO WIZARDS IN THE FINALS!!!!!!

Shu-Shu is putting on a clinic. 3-1, Chivas, midway through second half. Angeles is running out steam.

Damn. While Chivas was celebrating, Angelea scored. The referees had to take a time out to huddle. They are confused about the Angeles second goal.
Then the lady Japanese referee took AWAY the Angeles goal. Still 3-1, Chivas.

At this point, we know the Chivas USA Academy U13 went on to defeat Angeles, 5-1.
Then they sealed the deal with a 1-0 win in the U13 Final at the Cotton Bowl. Here is a video of some of the goals they scored.

Re: Dallas Cup 2014, U13
There are no goals on this video of the 5-1 thrashing of Angeles Soccer Elite. The U16s were chanting, "I Believe" and other chants, through-out the match and celebrated each goal as if it was their own. The U16s added color to the fun atmosphere.
The #2 kid has a ton of soccer personality. He's the kid they called Shu-Shu. I'm not sure if it's a real name or a nickname or whether I'm even spelling it correctly.
Observing the coaches up-close and listening to them when they spoke to their players was a neat experience.

Xuxuh (Shu-Shu) is fun to watch. Definitely interested in following his development over the next few years. Hoping he doesn't follow the trajectory of former young talents such as Freddy Adu.
Here's a detailed post about him and some of his achievements over the past year or so, and I think he was invited to U14 national team camp when he was a U12.

why doesn't he play up? why beat up on the u13's? he is a beast as people say. that size, strength and speed advantage will erode over time.

Re: Dallas Cup 2014, U13
That's a great question. I'm guessing the following helps mitigate that:
1. He wants to play for and be trained by Kleiban
2. He gets to play in Southern Cali which has a lot of talent in his own age group
3. Kleiban wants him to stay in age group so he can keep this super team together
4. With this super team, they've been invited to elite tournaments so he gets solid competition in his own age group (Surf Cup, Dallas Cup, MIC, etc.)
5. Staying with Kleiban gives access to their contacts in Europe and S. America and the opportunities there. Keep in mind that Kleiban played a role in getting Ben Lederman into La Masia.
6. Items 4 and 5 have led to him guest playing in other European competitions against elite players with Manchester City
7. Is it too early to worry about playing up? Lots of folks on here like to say it doesn't matter what team you're on till about age 15 (actually some on here say 13, some say 15, some say 17)

Ha, I didn't know he was famous. He caught my attention because I kept repeatedly hearing, "Shu!" or "Shu-Shu!"
I watched him in three games. He's not a gigantic kid. He's a little more muscular than his teammates and opponents. It's his footwork combined with speed and vision that sets him apart. That and his smile when he's enjoying the game.
Here is a picture from the Dallas Cup Facebook page where his team is playing the local Sporting United U13 team. As you can see, he's smaller than the giant-sized kid on the Sporting United team.

Here's another shot; size-wise, he's not huge.

that makes my point!!! even if a kid is of age (freak of nature) the size, power and speed advantages erodes over time and we find out what we thought was exceptional talent turns out to have been a competitive advantage. if xuhxu is a phenom we will not know until he plays with boys/men as strong and fast as he is
