Anyone know of a 03 Plano rec team that also plays in a few tournaments? My son has played club for the last 6 years. He will be 12 years old in Aug. Next year he will be in 7th grade.

Here is a link to a .pdf that contains this year's PYSA (Plano Youth Soccer Association) playoffs.

http://www.pysa.org/UserFiles/files/Recreation/playoffs/rec_playoffs_2014%20Spring%20U9_U19%20Playoffs.pdf

Look at the age bracket you are wanting to join and see if any of these teams are available.

Here is another link to PYSA team listings:

http://www.planoyouthsoccer.org/cgi-bin/2014_Rec_spring/schedules/

Select boys under 12 and see if any teams in the listing meet your needs.

I noticed that there were no U11 teams listed so maybe you can play up a year.

If you are willing to travel, the PrimeTime leagues are full of excellent Club and "Rec Elite" teams that are highly competitive and are fun to play against.

Plano and the surrounding area is the "Mount Olympus" Of Youth Soccer so I am sure there are many better qualified soccer forum members out there who can help you find what you are after and I wish you and your BB the best of luck in your search.

Thing to keep in mind is Rec has to follow different rules. They have to state in bylaws how they form rec teams, normally teams are either built based on neighborhoods/schools or blind draw.
Looking at the rules posted on the Plano Youth website this is how they form teams which is faily common with most rec associations.

4. TEAM STRUCTURE
A. A team (coaches and players) formed by PLANO YOUTH SOCCER and playing in PLANO YOUTH SOCCER
the previous season, may remain as a unit provided they meet the league eligibility and age
requirements. The minimum number of players remaining on a team and forming the nucleus for that
team, in order to remain as a unit, is six (6) players. However, it is possible that a team with
more than six (6) returning players may not form.

At the time of registration, recreational players have the option to request removal from a team
and reassignment through the Players’ Pool. A recreational player sitting out one season (i.e., not
playing soccer in any organization) can return to the player’s former team provided space is
available.
Otherwise, that player will be reassigned through the Players’ Pool unless decided otherwise by the
VP of Recreation. Competitive players returning to the recreational league must be reassigned
through the Player’s Pool. A player from a Competitive Division team must honor a valid 1-year
contract for that team, should one exist, unless the player has been duly released from that team.

Every recreational team must identify its school affiliation and once done cannot be changed
without approval from the Recreational Committee unless the new proposed school is in the normal
progression from the original school as the players go from Elementary to Middle School to High
School to Senior High School.

B. New recreational teams and returning recreational teams needing additional players will
obtain players in the manner described below. However, before new players are added to a returning
recreational team, the head coach must contact each player from the previous season and invite them
back, unless the player has moved or requested to be removed from that team.

(1.) In the Under 4 through Under 12 age groups, players will be assigned by the PLANO YOUTH
SOCCER office from the Players’ Pool, as governed by the Coordinating Committee, from their local
elementary school area in which they live whenever possible. If not enough players are available
from the team’s school; players from neighboring schools that feed into the same next level school
should be used first subject to roster space constraints.

North Texas rules for recreational soccer does not allow for the rec association to place a stronger player on a specific team based on strength of team or because of a request from parent/coach.

He will train as much as possible this year. He will be available to guest play, and hopefully I can afford club next year.

There are U11 teams but the reason you only see a U12 is because they combine U11 and U12. Most of the time the U11s are in one division and the U12s in another unless the U11 team is really good, they'll play up or if the U12 team is really bad then they'll play down. They attempt to even the playing field. It also gives each age group two chances at the Tournament of Champions.

With the expansion of youth academies and club soccer and therefore the fewer rec players , the intent of these rules are easily bypassed. Teams from PSA can form however they want, play for a season and then move over to PYSA. Individually it is fairly simple as well.

Is PSA better than PYSA rec? I don't know much about rec being he has always played club.
