Re: 97 Boys- Where will your boy play for 2010-2011 season?
Staying in D1, but very close to quitting the whole thing.
Visions of added freetime not realized...yet.
BB loves his coach/team, but losing interest in the sport and the time thief that it has become. Very much into school - making choices that I never would have at his age. Regardless of what his soccer future is, it produced a lot of lifelong memories (the friends, the work, the trips, starting in DCup...).
It's all good!

Re: 97 Boys- Where will your boy play for 2010-2011 season?
After 3 years of D1 BB decided he wanted to go down to D3 and play with his Middle School friends and for his future high school coach. Gives him an extra year with his HS coach to learn his system and how he works. We will be looking for another team next year due to UIL rules but he gets to play with his friends and it makes sense from a longer term perspective.....no issues.

Staying PPL. The team seems to be building, on its way up. Want to see how far we can take it. Plus little if any pressure for the BB. I figure he'll stay with it longer if he doesn't get burned out. Like the coach and the team (players and parents).

Staying with the same team and playing DIII. We've played on one of the better teams but came back to join back up with the "local team". Best decision we ever made. Great coach. Great friends. Our boy loves it. It's going to be a great year.

I hope his future high school coach is coaching his middle school team and not his D3 team? That is a big UIL no, no.

The rule isn't against the kid playing both, it's against a coach. Below is the UIL rule: http://www.uil.utexas.edu/policy/constitution/athletics/09_10sec1207_1210.pdf
OFF-SEASON PARTICIPATION IN NON-SCHOOL TEAM SPORTS.
(1) School coaches shall not coach 7-12 grade students from their own attendance zone on a non-school team
or in a non-school camp or clinic, with the exception of their own adopted or birth children.
(2) School equipment shall not be used for non-school teams/leagues.
(g) COACHING RESTRICTIONS. For non-school competition school coaches shall not schedule matched games
for students in grades 7-12 from their attendance zone. School coaches may assist in organizing, selecting
players and coaches, and may supervise school facilities for non-school league play. School coaches shall not
coach or instruct 7-12 grade students from their school district attendance zone in the team sports of baseball,
basketball, football, soccer, softball or volleyball. School coaches shall not supervise facilities for non-school
activities on school time. See Section 1201.

Thanks for the clarification, Mom! It's nice to know that driving across the entire town will pay off someday as we won't have the same coaches.

It's actually more stringent than stated. Oscar has been in trouble by UIL for coaching boys that attend Pearce on his Andro teams, but he only coaches girls at Pearce. I guess a club affiliation is enough to cause issues even though you don't actually coach the same kids in club and HS...

Re: 97 Boys- Where will your boy play for 2010-2011 season?
Several of the APL Revolution 97 boys have moved on to higher divisions over the last few years....
This year... one to d2 Texans. one to d2 Irving Elite. one to d1 FWFC......
Last year... One to d2 FWFC still there, now d1. one to d1 Solar Red... still there this year....
Year before that... 1 to d1 FC Dallas Blue still there......
Bb made the move this year.... Bitter sweet considering we have become very good friends with all the parents over the last three years.... Even the families that left before us have stayed in contact over the years.... Very good group of parents, and boys all around.....

Re: 97 Boys- Where will your boy play for 2010-2011 season?
The rule is exactly as stated, "(1) School coaches shall not coach 7-12 grade students from their own attendance zone on a non-school team or in a non-school camp or clinic, with the exception of their own adopted or birth children." The rule does not disqualify based on gender...it says "shall not coach 7-12 grade students". It doesn't matter if they play different (or no) sports in school....the only thing that matters is whether they live in the attendance zone or not.gpoo wrote:soccermom97b wrote:whyme wrote:what are the UIL rules regarding select kids playing both?

Which helps to explain Oscar's probation issue based on the letter of the law. In practice it never was applied until he had a club National Championship team and a State Nationl HS team.dreambig wrote:

Re: 97 Boys- Where will your boy play for 2010-2011 season?
What exactly did the UIL do to the coach? I've always wondered if this rule was ever enforced. It's a good rule in that it gives the kids a break and they can play another high school sport without coaches from different sports placing additional time demands on the kids.
Unfortunately, when you get outside of the larger cities, it is sometimes difficult to find volunteer or club coaches that have experience playing or coaching soccer. In many pockets throughout the state, the kids are hurt by eliminating the local high school coach as a club coach. Most of the time the high school soccer coach is asked to coach other sports at the school and they really don't have the time to coach a club team anyway. In every other sport, small towns can find parents with experience in baseball, basketball, football, etc. that live for coaching in the youth leagues. This UIL rule really hurts the development of soccer in the rural areas throughout the state.

Addendum: Rules only apply to non Dallas TEXANS SC coaches. Dallas Texans coaches are exempt from any and all rules, laws set forth by any entity.soccermom97b wrote:whyme wrote:what are the UIL rules regarding select kids playing both?
