FCD just signed Bryan Reynolds as their 17th Homegrown Player.  Congratulations to Bryan and look forward to seeing him in the big stadium next year.

Youngest player to ever sign with FCD and I think the second youngest player to ever sign in the MLS after Freddy Adu.

I have not seen him play but heard plenty of good things and he has been playing up on older teams in the FCD academy. He is listed as 6'3" and 170lbs so playing up is obviously no problem for him physically.

FCD look to be assembling their own "Class of 92" for the 2019 season....

Congrats to the Reynolds family. I've know this young man and his family since he was younger. The young man had worked hard and put in effort to get to this level

Congrats Bryan!

Can somebody explain how this works to me? I understand that with FCD signing him, they've locked him in so he can't be lured away to another team without compensation. I see how that benefits FCD. How does this benefit Bryan? Does he get a paycheck now?

Congratulations to the kid and the family. I hope he succeeds at the national and team level.

So, is FC Dallas DA where these guys will play for the next couple of years? I may have to up my son's allowance.

Are these three signings an overreaction to Weston leaving FCD and signing with Schalke?

Benefits the player by giving him 1st team training and 1st team opportunity to play at the professional level. Gives him visibility to other professional clubs, and yes, he gets a paycheck.

I'm not certain about over reaction, but they won't get caught in that situation again. lol

The risk for the player is they lose College eligibility by turning pro and getting paid. That's a big gamble for a 15 year old.

Save your money just in case you need some for college later.

Agree, however, the median pay in the MLS is $117K. Considering SMU is around 65K a year, you will be doing just fine to pay for college after the fact.

I think if they sign a player to a Homegrown contract that means they have to at least pay them the league minimum which is $53k for the reserve roster.

Conversely in England I don't think that clubs are allowed to offer a player a contract until he is 17. Clubs can receive training compensation if an academy player moves to another club.

Wow! $53K minimum for a 15yr old. That's quite a bit of cash for a young man. So you're telling me that for Bryan and others that have signed, they get to play on the DA team still but the only difference is that they get paid now. I forgot, training with the pros as well.

College isn't probably a concern right now. I'd be concerned with finding the motivation to finish up HS first.

I can (NOT) verify this, but I heard that when Kenny Cooper gave up his full-ride at SMU in 2003 just before August to take a trial with United, one of the conditions was that United essentially gave him a blank check to go to any University if things didn't work out and his "college eligibility" was blown

once again ... I can NOT confirm this rumor, but if I was a parent of these 15/16/17 year old kids, I would want to double-down on signing by having a clause like this somewhere inserted in the contract

Earbucket, thanks for the data and that goes a long way regarding my point. And, yes this is a reaction to losing The Chosen One.

Arsenal, you're exactly right.

Maybe PrestonP can shed some light on that subject?

so didn't coopers dad have some strings to pull for his boy at ManU which is Club with a bit more money than FCD so I'm sure they could offer a contact like that to cooper.

and looking at the homegrown signings wasn't Luna the forward who set the record for goals in a season in academy? doesn't look like those signings have made much of an impact or success in their pro careers

Not sure exactly what the info is your seeking, but here is some generic info. This only pertains to my son, I have no info on the others.

Son can play wherever the club wants him to including academy as long as he meets the age requirement.

Yes he gets paid.

College scholarship is no longer an option.  This was biggest area of concern for us until we learned:

League has relationship with online university. Highly encourage all players to work on first 2 years of college online while in league and cost to player is very minimal. Need to get mine out of High school first

Not every kid is cut out for college. If the player is, there are endorsements that will fund money away specifically for college.   you can not take the cash. It's held for a long period of time and can only be used for college.

As always, I think everything is negotiable based on ability. Not sure how anyone else is handling their future, but all involved with my son (fcd, agent, adidas), were very concerned that his future education is secure
