Are tryouts held every year? when would the 97 tryouts be again?

Re: 99 Boys ODP tryouts?
What they told us was they hold the try-outs once, for the 97's in the Winter (November'08 - January'09), and that's it. Now a coach can call NTX and recommend a player if he thinks he is good enough and NTX will then come to a game and have a look. The best is to send Gary Williamson an email Gary@ntxsoccer.org for further questions. The 98's will propably be this Winter.Tequilapark wrote:Are tryouts held every year? when would the 97 tryouts be again?

Re: 99 Boys ODP tryouts?
is there even a real reason to do ODP anymore? other then to say my kid is ODP ? it doesn't mean he is the top player and I thought they were going to just drop the ODP all together?

Not sure if they drop it because there is no comparable program available. Everybody needs to decide if it is worthwhile doing but it gives the players exposure to other coaches and touches for a very reasonable price.

I agree with the German on this one. It might not be the top players, but the coaching is good when they are there for the boys and not trying to run a coaching clinic like they did last month.
My 97B really excelled last year and a lot had to do with getting the extra coaching sessions from ODP. With the extra touches, in game experience and drills, I could tell a big difference in his play. Not to mention, my son enjoyed going for the workouts, training and camaraderie.
As unorganized and as frustrating as it can and may be, I still believe it is worth it until there is something comparable to it out there to replace it.

For those seriously considering trying to get scholarship money down the road through soccer, ODP makes an impact now. Take a look at current applications--they all ask about ODP experience. The folks that don't have it stand out, not in a good way, where any easy way to make a cut is welcomed. Until there is something else that has developed along with the kids, ODP is still important to some.
Then again, those thinking about soccer scholarship probably ought to think again.

Randee and TG are right on the money. It is a great place to get extra touches and the price is relatively low. Also getting to play a different position and making friends is priceless. The coaches seem to really care about the kids and my bb always has a good time.

The communication is at times poor and practices can be sporadic. The regional camp is an incredible experience. If there is anything like it I don't know what it is.

Re: 99 Boys ODP tryouts?
It's a real shame that the one time tryouts aren't better publicized. The tryouts come and go without a lot of kids/parents ever hearing about them. If an ODP credential is really worth something, and if they are really trying to identify and develop young talent, then it shouldn't be so hard to find out what the program is (starting with the fact that it exists) and how to try out for it. As it stands it is just another insiders activity.

The NTSSA web-site is full of information for anyone to peruse. If ODP started putting flyers on everyone's cars like Smudgers and Moffett, every rec player in the word would show up....Freeatlast wrote:It's a real shame that the one time tryouts aren't better publicized. Re: 99 Boys ODP tryouts?
So when 99b tryouts come around, what is the percentage of players trying out, more 99 or 00 players. I know there are a lot of late 99 birth year players who play 00 age group & a lot of late 98 birth year players who play in the 99 age group.

It's good that you mention that. Some parents miss trying out because they don't realize that ODP is "age pure" for the birth year, so that just because your kid is a 99 in the leagues doesn't mean he is a 99 for ODP tryouts. Born in 98 he needs to be trying out this fall (November), even if he is a "99" in league. (Hope I said that right.)

Has anyone heard or had their kid participate in the id2 program held by US Club Soccer. How does this compare to ODP. See http://www.usclubsoccer.org/main.aspx?sec_id=20&guid=3c1422e1-d5ce-45c5-98d2-b02731598798.
