My son is a 94 birth year but plays 95. He is wanting to check out ODP. Any suggestions? Does he need a recommendation?

He just needs to attend the Open tryouts when they crop up - I think in the fall. That said, for this age group, ODP has tumbled pretty far with the advent of the Academy leagues pulling many of the ODP players away.

I don't think the older age groups have open try outs as much as they are open practices that can be attended with a club coach recommendation or an invite. The open try outs this fall will be for 97s. Watch the NTX web site for 94 practices and go from there.
