05 Coaches and Teams
I am looking for a little feedback/info on some of the 05 Academy coaches and teams. Trying to find a good one for my boy. I am not really concerned about the area. Also, what leagues are the better ones? Thanks for the help!!!

Re: 05 Coaches and Teams
I would definitely look at visiting several of the different teams. I would throw out Toto Schmugge who is coaching an 05 team at TFC Allen. You can see his bio and contact info at www.texasfootballclub.com.
I play with him on a couple of indoor teams and my son (an 03) loves him when he gets to practice with him at skills or just messing around before an indoor game.

We are with 05 Boys Gerrard in the Flower Mound/Lewisville area. My BB has enjoyed the experience and has improved his skills. We have only been playing small side games 4 v 4, however in the spring we will be in SDL, mainly because the parents want it. The coach would rather play another year of 4 v 4 or 3 v 3.

05's should stay with small sided games for both touches and skill!!!afrankw wrote:lostinlife wrote:I am looking for a little feedback/info on some of the 05 Academy coaches and teams. You bet, but parents don't like to watch that as much and don't understand the purpose. If we don't move to SDL or some other league, we will lose players and risk not having a team.

Re: 05 Coaches and Teams
Your coach should have a parent meeting and explain the benefits of staying small-sided.
Sometimes I think coaches get nervous about talking to parents when in reality, parents want to believe in the coach--after all, they picked him in the first place.
If parents understand the reasoning, they are likely to support the coach

We are playing indoor 4 v 4 right now and we have 3 players sitting out until the spring outdoor season, I agree with the coach, if we don't go play sdl or some other league we are looking for 3 more players and maybe more. It's the American way, bigger is better.

Should definitely stay small sided. If others want to move to bigger fields and more chaos, you should just let them. Less players equals more touches and playing time for your bb to develop.

Re: 05 Coaches and Teams
I know I will get torched for saying this, but, my son plays for Marcio Leite and he absolutely loves him. I don't think there are many better than him for development. As long as my son is enjoying it and learning, I am happy. We will playing SDL.

My guess is that the parents may agree more than you may think...especially with 05s. Might be good to take a poll of all the parents to get all of their thoughts.
Many reasons that a parent will sit their kid out for the winter indoor season...
Maybe the kids sitting out are better suited for bigger fields (kick far and speedy), or they're playing basketball, or they just simply need a break.
You are right though...many parents can't wait to get to the big fields...would be a great experiment for a team to play small sided for a few more years and see the difference in skill when they're 8-9. Anyone have a recent local example of this?

Msny of these coaches will act like development is central to their program, but in reality they are concerned with winning/parents too - our 05 team wanted to play up 9v9 - what a joke. Try futsal all year - the guys at IAD in Carrollton have it right!
