EPL Clinic Empty EPL Clinic

Post by finish1 2/27/2012, 8:51 pm

An absolute soccer clinic was played out Sunday in the EPL as visiting Tottenham grabbed an early lead on Arsenal. later in the first half, the Spurs scored again and put Van Persie and Co in a giant 0-2 hole.

Just before the break, the giant awakened and knotted the score at 2-2. The second half began as the first ended, with a barrage of passing, switching and lightning quick counters by Arsenal. By the 60th minute, Walcott buried a beautiful strike into the back of the net for a 5-2 derby win.

A game for the ages in the 100 year North London rivalry.

Agree, amazing performance by the Gunners.

One must ask however...where has that been all season...?

Nothing like an old fashioned rivalry to bring out your best. Smile

The Three Lions are in a state of disarray. The John Terry debacle, Capello's resignation and Rooney sidelined with an illness aren't good.

The Orangemen should take this friendly with ease. Did you see that sick goal Kuyt scored in the Carling Cup Final? They will be without Van Der Vaart, who is still recovering from the Derby match. My prediction, the Dutchmen fly for an easy victory 3-0.

England will probably run a 4-2-3-1 and Holland a 4-1-3-2 with Van Persie and Kuyt up top and Schneijder in the middle.

According to what I just read Van Persie may sit this one out due to a groin injury. So let's call it 2-0 then.

I don't see the England team as being in any greater disarray than usual. The English media drone on and on about the England manager and the England team but does anyone really care about international football anymore? It has become a sideshow to the Champions League and EPL. Uefa just negotiated the number of games down from 12 to 9 per year. The clubs wanted just 6. These friendlies are a joke. Half the squad pull out injured. Usually 7 substitutions at half time. Most of the players don't care and retire from internationals unless they are using the national team to raise their profile (aka paycheck). When the summer tournaments arrive all the players are knackered and injured.

Friendlies are good opportunities for coaches to get looks at players and are great scrimmages. Klinsmann has used them to get a better idea of how the USMNT will redefine itself. Brek Shea skipped the U23 match today at Pizza Hut Park to play with the national team vs Italy. I believe it is aired on ESPN2 at Noon today.

Friendlies are great for the coach but the clubs hate them. They lose their players for several days and they come back tired from travel or injured.

International soccer and the world cup has been great for spreading passion for the game globally. But it is now in decline because the big money is in club soccer.

Watched the highlights of the Arsenal v Spurs game and you were spot on...it was SUPER....
