It is an open tournament any team can play if they pay.

Why would a '99 team be playing up a year at state cup?

I've been scratching my head since the accepted team list came out. It's really odd. It also makes for an odd number bracket becasue they are the 13th team. At least they are in the only 4 team bracket so they will get their money's worth. Maybe they are awesome and will just roll through the 98 age group.

I am guessing they were a bit overconfident after running through everyone in the Irving Rec league U14 division

Re: 98 Boys State Cup Accepted Teams
Very interesting results....
FCDP won as expected in Bracket A
DT over Tigres 1 - 0 to advance was a surprise in Bracket B
Tejanos over RM 1 - 0 - RM Keeper not at game for Tejanos to Advance in Bracket C
Pumas over Solar 3 - 2 in Bracket D to advance on head to head result

Re: 98 Boys State Cup Accepted Teams
Anyone catch any of the d2 team matchups? Other than the reported scores, was the difference that huge?
Was it just physical?
Or was it across the board (technically, tactically and physically?)

IMHO, tactics and skill. And let's not forget that teams that walked through D2 this year did so with the help (certainly not the only reason) of the fact that many other D2 teams were cleaned out of their top players (again, not totally), most of whom went to D1 or PA, leaving them with the false sense of what it meant to win a league and move up. These teams will have to add to their depth and skill level to compete in D1, that's just a fact. Now they know it too. Even before PA, this age group had the habit of chewing up and spitting out teams who climb up from D2.
I will take my beating now ...

Re: 98 Boys State Cup Accepted Teams
No beating from me. I sensed that was pretty much the case. I've always maintained there are strong, exceptional players everywhere.
That said, the d1 teams have a lot more depth. I haven't seen any of the PA teams so I can't comment.

I saw bits and pieces of two of the games. I wouldn't say it was so much physical as the teams were pretty evenly matched up and the D2 teams might have been bigger physically, but the skill and speed of play (both sides of the ball) was the biggest difference. I would have liked to have seen Ayses vs Tigres as they have contrasting styles and their games this year have been very close. Santiago was very quiet in the LP vs RM game so that should tell you alot.

Re: 98 Boys State Cup Accepted Teams
My limited observation of d2 players last fall revealed a handful of exceptional players:
Waco...their striker. Very talented player.
Babel...a defender stood out with his physical presence.
Ayses....2 players. Think one was a center mid and another attacking player.
Tyler Azzurri has/had 3 players capable of a much higher level. (I'll leave it at that.)
if you took the top 10-12 players in D2, they would be able to be successful d1 or even PA players...depending on their birth year.
