Playing with a cast in Classic League
Quick (hopefully) question about the rules for playing with a cast in Classic League. I've heard you can play with bubble wrap and duct tape, but I've also heard it's up to the referee's decision.
- what is the best method for wrapping?
- what is the best material to use? foam wrapped with bubble and duct taped?
- small or big bubbles?
- Is there something specific the referee is looking for?
I've checked the Classic League's website, and searched for "cast" in the Rules, By-Laws, and Constitution, but could find nothing.
Thank you.

Re: Playing with a cast in Classic League
It is the referee's decision. Bubble wrap and duct tape are the accepted method...Wrap it big enough that the ref will know it's wrapped well, as most will call the player over to check it. No cast showing!
Ref is looking to ensure that if the cast hits another player, there are layers of bubble wrap to protect the other player.

Bubble wrap (small bubbles) with an ace bandage over it held with cloth athletic tape. Not that it is not done but have never seen the duct tape method. They are looking for all hard surfaces padded up to protect other players. No casts above the elbow. If the player uses the cast arm as a club they will be told they can not continue to play.

As a referee (but not in classic), the information provided here is generally correct. At end of day, it is up to the referee but generally bubblewrap with ace bandage (no metal clips though) is best choice. Player will also be cautioned to not use the arm as a weapon/tool. Usually any attempt to use arm to gain position will result in a foul being called.

Duct tape holds up better in humidity, sweat, and rain...Putting it straight on top of the bubble wrap enables the ref to see that it is adequately wrapped up.
And don't forget the scissors in your pocket to cut it off because he's going to be begging because of the heat....You can reuse the same wrap if you cut carefully and then re-apply the tape.

If your bb is a play maker and if we are playing you then, no, a cast can not be worn during the game. Sorry, those are the rules (circa Calvin and Hobbes)..
