Re: HS RANKINGS 1/31/14
Byron beat Wakeland in Brewer tournament. Also had the disadvantage of finishing a game just an hour before the final started. (Wakeland also played a game that day but it ended in the morning...final at 6)

Above are the Texas rankings from earlier this week on Student Sports. 11 of the top 20 are from the DFW area. I don't have any issue with you placing Coppell on top. After all, they are the defending champs and deserve to be there until someone proves they can beat them.

Re: HS RANKINGS 1/31/14
The latest rankings from Student Sports. The top seven are unchanged, but Wakeland dropped from #8 to #15 with their 5-1 drubbing by Coppell. Allen fell from #10 to #18 after getting shut out 3-0 by Marcus. Rockwall and Duncanville move into the top ten. JJ Pearce remains at #19 despite winning two more games as they opened District play. Not sure why they're not getting more love with that gaudy record. Hebron up to #12, still no losses on the season heading into a match with Plano on Tuesday. Dropping out is Greenhill, and the new entry is Economedes at #16.

Coppell hosts Hebron Friday
Whom does Marcus beat (I mean play) Friday when district starts?
Also, did you see how easy Coppell got it in Soccer for the next 2 years?
7-6A w/Euless Trinity, LD Bell, Haltom, South Lake Carroll, Colleyville Heritage, Richland (no offense to ANY of these schools meant)
Now football, that looks like a 3rd place showing and first round playoff opponent of either DeSoto or Cedar Hill
Yikes
Marcus in a tough soccer district (and football too)
6-6A w/Allen, Plano West, Plano, Plano East, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Hebron and McKinney Boyd
Weird though that Coppell is in a 7 team district and Marcus in a 9 team one
How about 8 and 8 UIL?

Duncanville over Cedar Hill (2-1)
Either Duncanville's not really that good, or Cedar Hill's improved in one week.
Cedar Hill lost to Desoto 4-1.
C.H. has terrible 1st touches. Horrible passing. Defenders are very slow, with 1 defender fouling whenever he gets beat. Duncanville won dang near every loose ball.
Cedar Hill would back up and allow the opponent to possess the ball. They rarely attacked.
At one point, 3 defenders (and I kid you not) backed all the way into the goal and the keeper had to come out to make an awesome save.
That keeper was freaking pissed!

Re: HS RANKINGS 1/31/14
Ok, so I adjusted the rankings with some head/head results to support the rankings. It’s really hard to judge teams that pull their starters in non-district games causing the first & second halves to be different games, but after enough results you are what you are.

Re: HS RANKINGS 1/31/14
I'll add that Marcus had a scrimmage in early January against your #14 Nimitz and defeated them 2-0. That one probably isn't on the schedule you looked at.
Any particular reason that Rockwall isn't ranked higher?

Rockwall, like Pearce, have good records, but it’s just strength of schedule.

Re: HS RANKINGS 1/31/14
with respect, I agree statistically, Marcus is 1 and Coppell 2, given current league and local tournament record.
I agree with strength of schedule in arguing Coppell #1 Marcus 2. Everything below that is circumstantial until proven otherwise.
Probably there is a sizeable drop off from 6-10, then 11-20 and beyond.
But that seems atypical of any league.

The teams really did look bad even the good players. Still do not know how DHS beat Jesuit. DHS should win district but that is it unless they can find some offense because their defense is very good.

Re: HS RANKINGS 1/31/14
Definitely agree that Duncanville has a very good defense.
Cedar Hill's only 9th grader on varsity is just that good.
The ball was fed to him on a nice cross-over and BAM! the kid scores on a header.
After that, DHS got stingy.
Did you see the one-on-one between DHS's forward and CHS's goalie where the forward kicked the ball so off that it went over that building?
Unlike American Football, the defense can't score for you.
DHS just seemed "off" that game. Maybe over-confident. But with the percentage of possessions in DHS's favor and shots on goal, it could've easily been 5 or 6 to 1.
I'm not giving up on CHS, but I hope they practice more on 1st touches and better passing.
Also, I'm pleasantly shocked that CL cancelled my younger BB's game for tomorrow.
Now I can watch my older BB play his H.S. game that was cancelled for tonight.

Re: HS RANKINGS 1/31/14
CHHS are who they are not great but good enough to maybe make playoffs. Did see the game and DHS dominated the entire game except when they subbed. They did what all teams have done and that is to deny or foul the center mid and let the rest of the team beat you. Tomorrow's games will be fun. Dville should handle GP.

Re: HS RANKINGS 1/31/14
Cedar Hill had a few good passes during that subbing.
That Duncanville coach subs the whole bench together.
Thank goodness the ref made some bad calls against ya'll. (Yaaaaaay! Cedar Hill's "12th Man"!)
But seriously, that game could've easily gotten out of hand, if the majority of the kids didn't know each other personally.
Just glad no one got hurt.
Our big defender needs to stop fouling when he gets beat. Our keeper played his butt off.
3 saves should've went in, but that kid was all over it.
Good luck against GP. One of GP's starters will miss this game and 5 more weeks of soccer due to an injury from last Friday night's game.

Then Cedar Hill's schedule is wrong.
