HS Soccer Player In Dallas Morning News

The Dallas Morning News had a great article on a local HS Soccer player this morning, Stian Sandbekkhaug.

He has accepted a scholarship to Valparaiso. He also deferred DA his senior year so he could play soccer with his schoolmates!

Congrats to Stian!

Don't know about the DMN article but the one I read was a little misleading. He is a club player with FCD premier. So yes he is on an top CLUB team. So yes congratulations to an outstanding CLUB player and his signing much like quite a few of the other kids from the same team. I believe their ENTIRE team had some great signing results.

wasn't offered DA position with his own club? that and being on a TOP team made the decision less about high school and more about what was best for him. good choice in his case

I believe that FCD prem team may have had a couple of ex DA players and no looks like he was only offered and andro spot not and FCD one. Besides he is a canuk so no need to be in the US DA

D1 soccer, pretty competitive area. Academics...79% acceptance rate. Not known for any particular greatness but not known as a bad school either.

From the article...

“For those absolute top players, they should go academy,” Wakeland coach Rusty Oglesby said. “That makes sense. But for the other 98 percent, they should play high school ball.”

I think he's on the money here. How many are 2%, certainly not enough for 4 academy teams. And if kids are doing academy for better chances at college then allow them to play high school.

1000 (60 teams x 16) kids only gets you 20 kids.

2% is about all that should be there and yes they should be playing in HS too. They just shouldn't be in DA

Sort of a pointless point. Of course he's a club kid, just as all the other top HS players are club kids. He was recognized in the Dallas Morning News for his accomplishments in High School, not club.

so you are saying his high school play is what landed him in that particular college, and NOT being on an elite 1st place team within the FCD club? lol!
