The German wrote:Another thing for next year is the change of the roster size to 18 players, which means if each team takes a full roster you have 20 more players in each division. I can see a lot of movement this summer.
And a lot more benchwarming.
The top teams will have a lot of players trying to get a spot on the team, unfortunately, in most cases, it will mean 5 to 7 players that will see the game from the sidelines, or at least most of it. While the roster will increase to 18 (max), the games will continue to be 35 minutes.

Re: 97 Up, Down and Challenge Teams
I don't think there will be much bench warming, since players taken out will not be able to return back for that half. So coaches will want fresh legs, so kids will play more plus also matchup will decide who plays.

I just checked the rules, this applies after U15.
1. Number of Substitutions and Re-entry.
a. U11-U14. The FIFA Rules that (a) limit the number of potential substitutes; or, (b) prohibit a player from returning to the game after he has been substituted for, do not apply for age groups U11-U14, and up to 7 potential substitutes (5 in U11 through U13, 7 in U14) may be designated. Players that have been substituted for may return to the game as an additional substitute for any player on the field at the times set forth below.
b. U15-U19. The Classic League limits the number of substitutions in all Classic League Challenge and League games to seven (7) per half, with no re-entry for field players during the half in which they were substituted. Goalkeepers are allowed one (1) re-entry in each half of play, provided the substitution is within the limit of seven (7) total substitutions for that

Re: 97 Up, Down and Challenge Teams
From what I know and have seen, I too would think Amarillo Lightning and Monterrey would be the favorites in the upcoming Challenge Games.
And w/all the possible movement next year I could see them doing pretty good in D3 if they get there.
Don't think either could go past mid-D2 IMHO.
But hey when the heck am I ever right

That move by ASG could help Solar Gold in PPL. Now Solar has a better chance of winning out and therefore advancing to challenge games.

Re: 97 Up, Down and Challenge Teams
What is the percentage of D3 teams that actually end up defending their spot in the Challenge Tourney and stay in D3? Seems like in recent times the PPL and APL teams have moved up.

I do not know the exact percentage but the APL/PPL teams have done quite well. If I am not wrong 6 in the last 3 years have made it. Andro, ASGRW(?), CDI, Tigres, Irv. El. and oh I guess that is 5, maybe 4.

It looks like about 50% stay if you look at past seasons.

Re: 97 Up, Down and Challenge Teams
NTX Strikers and Txns White moved up after U11. Txns White went back to D3 after U12,and finished 10th this year in D3.
Tigres and Irving Elite are low cost Clubs. They should have no problem attracting talent and keeping their upward trend...till the commitment required in D1 hits them (IMO).

Great group of players, families, and long-term commitment to same team starting in Plano then letting boys develop and mature through puberty and now they are big, strong, fast, and skilled.
