Why are so many US teams "playing up" against foreign opposition?

Most probably you are talking about PA or DA teams that are formed with players born in the same solar year. So a U15 team will be formed only by players born in 1999 or after and therefore will play one year up as many of their players - but not all - would be too old for the U15 age group.

i have talked to the the parents from some of the foreign teams and no they are not their elite teams so i would say after years of dominating they probably feel like the competition isnt good enough to warrant the expenses for travel and of course ntx hasnt changed at all same ol' same ol'Se_la_perdio! wrote:hunden97 wrote:Good luck to all NTX teams! one approach could be to change the format of the tournament. now each team is sure to play three games within three or four days, but they have to commit to stay in Dallas for another three days, just in case the team advances to the final. this adds up to the costs quite a lot, mostly for the US teams that are not at a driving distance from Dallas. The foreign teams are hosted by the local families and actually get to enjoy Texas in the remaining days with very little cost to them.

Really the Boss? You've talked to several parents? Funny, everyone one we know in the U16 division has Homestay players and you know what, not one parent came. All I've heard so far from the foreign coaches is that the DC is still one if the Premiere youth tourneys in the world. The competition seems pretty good to me foreign or otherwise. Now the fields at Richland, that's a totally different story.
I also agree that they could set the tourney up differently to assure more matches for more teams. The Premeire Supercopa for the youngins has a great format.

yea really but i meant foreign being any team team outside of ntx lol anyway it was a few parents from mexico and cali but maybe this is your first year in the DC so you dont know what the previous years competition looked like IMO it does not see to be as strong as previous years and my sons team has been in it for the last 3 years.striker6 wrote:Really the Boss? Last time I checked, Texas was still part of the US!

I hear you. No it's not my first but maybe what we're also seeing is that the competition is better from NTX now that the Texans don't have the automatic births in the tourney as they have over the past few years. Btw how did the Texans get added to super17?

I tend to agree. This is our third year in the DC, and I don't really see a difference in the competition level. Love the MoneyGram complex!striker6 wrote:I hear you. with all of the discussions between cl vs. pa/da & ntx vs. cas/can i took the dc results out a bit further:
- overall ntx did much better this year against the outside competition compared to last year
- pa/da teams in the younger age groups did not do very well
- ntx teams and cl fcd teams in particular had tremendous showing in the older age groups
- from a club perspective dt with only 2 out of their 9 teams advancing did not have as much success as fcd (6 out of 13) & solar (4 out of 7)

of course the bottom line is winning. lets see which teams win it all. the brackets are usually not all even.

True. And FCDallas Premier was the only u16 to get through. Tigres and Solar98b both lost in PKs to the Cali teams. Solar Pa lost on the dreaded senseless foul and following free kick and header combo. I personally like FCDP and their chances.

Oh and I might also add that I can't freaking believe that the local boys would chose High School playoffs over the Dallas Cup matches. Simply unbelievable to me.

The entire community does not rally around BB's club soccer team. A Texas state championship is special in its own right. I'm sure the Boyd kids would rather not be driving back to Dallas tonight.

Well congratulations if you get a whole community to rally around a soccer team in NTX. I suspect it's more like the parents, grandparents and 50 or 60 friends that don't know what a offside is.

Personally I think it is bull in a big way but I guess that's a choice. Now, in my opinion if you indeed choose one over the other then you should be not returning to the one you dropped.nearpost95 wrote:striker6 wrote:Oh and I might also add that I can't freaking believe that the local boys would chose High School playoffs over the Dallas Cup matches. Another reason why the academy rule was a necessity. A player simply can't play in 2 teams at a time. Also when you think about it who would argue that at U11 select kid should be allowed to play Rec ?

Good question. USSDA Texans finished 8th in their conference. I wondered how USSDA Andromeda (11th) made the DC. Even having Solar USSDA was a stretch and they finished 4th. Where are all the top US Academies and why are they choosing not to participate in the Dallas Cup?

Maybe they don't want to expose themselves. Hate to see DA teams loosing to the the 3rd place ranked team in their So Cal league.

At Byron Nelson, the community rallied around in masses (way more than 50/60). Now, they are a special case since both teams made the trip to state. At DC (especially at the younger ages), support for the NTX teams is sometimes less compared to that of teams from other countries (i.e. Mexico). End of day, a choice by kids and families...

I keep hearing from all the clubs how only the hopeless and gooftastic play HS soccer so I'm surprised that the DC teams can't play just fine without those charity cases.
